Last year I took my car to Skyline college to get it checked. For some reason this year, I can't seem to find any info on making an appointment there. Does anyone have any info on this?
Also, since I can never seem to get my readiness codes cleared, I can only take my car to a test only station.
Any recommendations for other shops? Thanks in advance.

Hiya Nelson,
Here's the webpage for the BAR referee test station and the phone number. I'm in the same boat...will be calling to make an appointment at the nearby station this week.

There are lots of test only stations in SF but it sounds like you're going to need a referee, or at least a decent shop that is willing to have a go at resetting the codes. I think Ash is probably on the right track.

I was just informed of the new procedure. You have to take your car to a test only or gold shield station first and then if you fail, you are allowed to go to the referee. You cannot take your car directly to the referee first. This blows, cause I know I'm going to fail. I can never get my codes reset.
Any ideas?

I've always been happy with these guys. They smogged my p-car last week with no issues. Said the data showed it as car with "very clean emissions".

I have had to use the referee for the past 4 tests. This year I called for the test and was told that the state has updated the software to work with my car (1996 993). I doubted, but went to a test only station in Oakland and passed easily!!!!!
