Default Carrera 4 questions

All:

1)What is the correct offset for a front 16" rim on a 1996 Carrera 4 coupe?

2) Is there a difference in the front hubs on a Carrera vs. Carrera 4 that affects wheel fitment/offset?

Thanks in advance,

Paul.

All 993 Carrera 4 models came standard with 17" wheels in the US. There were some promo pics that showed cars on 16" but I don't think any production cars were built that way. Are you asking because you are looking to fit winter rubber?

I bought a set of 16" rims for putting snow tires on my car;

Fronts: 6" x50mm offset

Rears: 7" X40mm offset

Rears seem to fit, but the fronts need spacers. Seller claims there is a difference between Carrera & Carrera 4, hence the need for spacers on the front. I think the guy sold me a set of Boxster rims.

From searching, it appears the correct width/offsets for a 993 should be;

Fronts: 7" x55mm offset

Rears: 9" X70mm offset

Can anyone confirm?

I know the hubs are the same on all. We can fit the RS hubs on our cars. Can't help with the offset, but if you only need a 5mm spacer, I would not worry about it.

The 16" 993 rims were, I believe, 7" front and 9" rear. Doesn't answer your offset question but may explain why the 6 and 7" wheels you bought don't look right.

originals were
V 7Jx16 ET55 w/205/55 ZR16
H 9Jx16 ET70 w/ 245/45 ZR16

no difference in front or rear wheel mounting wrt wheels or ET

Thanks! Fronts fit fine now they have 5mm spacers. Rears stick out a ways but will work. Attempting to rectify situation with seller- will keep you updated.

Cheers,

Paul.

Last question. Seller states: "the calipers on a C4 are larger than the C2".

True or false?

Thanks for all the help,

Paul.

Paul, they are the SAME! The only ones we got over here are the normal calipers, & the Big Reds. The only difference on the C4's is we got silver calipers.

Thanks for the info. Based on my experience thus far, I can confirm that Victory Motor cars cannot even sell a set of used rims without telling lies.

I should have known better.

I wanted to ask where you got them. That makes total sense now. Did you at least get a smoking deal?

This all seams like a ton of work for winter wheels!! There are always cheap sets of cups that show up here, but they are a little wide for winter wheels.

Paul, I drove my C4 with summer tires last winter during the storm, it was perfect! But stopping was a challenge. Even with 4-6in of show it just kept on going! Why was I out in the snow? I hosted a dam dyno day durning it, & had to go.

!!!

There is now way they can claim ignorance! If it were me I'd threaten to call the state attorney general.

Paul - did you pay Victory with your credit card? If so I would dispute the charge in writing right away. with so many great folks out there to deal with like FD Motorsports, Rennsport Systems, etc (there are many!!) its a shame a couple of consistent crooks (we all know their names) get to stay in business pulling this kind of crap. Victory is consistent. they don't discriminate - they cheat everyone it seems!!!

hope you get it worked out! thankfully its just for winter rubber only!

All:

Thanks for the helpful advice. I paid $400 for 4 16" rims with center caps. The spacers to make them fit were an additional $60. I think that was a pretty good deal? I asked the seller several times if they would fit a 993, he assured me they would. The reason I bought them is because I already had a set of 16" snow tires from my '89 targa. Otherwise I would have put snow tires on the Cup rims. Anyhow, I have requested Mr. Neal send me $60 to rectify the situation, but he seems hell bent on coming up with excuses. I actually bought the rims back in February, so I doubt I would have recourse- plus if I did, I would be back at square one. And I haven't seen many of the correct offset 16" rims for sale. Anyhow, I'm babbling. Thanks again for the help- and drive safe.

Cheers,

Paul.
