It looks like we will be up in the area from the 24th - 30th. So having not been up there before, I'm open to suggestions on what the best day, meeting place and route should be. It would be nice to make a loop of the area with maybe a lunch or breakfast in there as well (if possible). PM's sent this moring to those who expressed interest. And I'll cross post to the other boards.
EDIT: down the line it was posted whether this would be a weekday or w/e trip. Lets get the voting going (PM me and I will post next to your name, your vote).
EDIT 2
If there is interest from those coming from further away than an hour or so, indicate whether you'd want to make it an overnight event. We could plan a longer route and time together if so.
Here's the list of participants:
- Me, duh (open to either w/e or w/d)
- Hound Dog
- AtlJimK (Friday or w/e)
- 95 NC 993 (open to anything)
- HAMOTEE (open ^^)
- Fpena ? confirmed

I should be able to make it. Been on the TOD a few times but on a motorcycle or in a Sequoia (yeah, yeah, had to take a car to my sister). I too like the Cherahola Pkwy. 28 by Fontana Dam is nice too if you can catch it with no traffic. LOTS of great roads up there, good place to just get lost (with a GPS).

I would like to participate either during the week or weekend. It doesn't matter. Doing both the Tail of the Dragon and Cherohala in one day is a bit too much for me personally but many bikers do it. I have done this so many times I would just like to recommend a fun day that would allow people to participate from farther distances like Atlanta or Nashville without exhausting themselves. May I suggest the following: Start with a meeting at the top of the Smoky Mountain national park at Newfound Gap (clearly marked with large parking lot and scenic views) at 10:00 a.m. where we could meet each other, enjoy each other's cars, etc, then caravan to Gatlinburg for lunch where many restaurants are available, then caravan back towards the park and the Foothills Pkwy to a parking lot by the lake right before the Tail of the Dragon. We then could tackle the Dragon together and end up at Deal's Gap. All of these roads and parkways are scenic and wonderful driving roads. At that point, each person could decide whether to head home while on the NC side or if you want to head back to the TN side, then hit the Dragon again and go home or do whatever else you want. That makes a really nice day with many allowances for travelling time to and from. Of course it all depends on the weather which has been one of the the worst in memory for many people here in the mountains. Late March is not busy and traffic should not be an issue. Police are not a problem for caravans unless people drive crazy. Weekdays are best but the weekend should not be bad either. Sounds like fun and i'm looking forward to it.

Depnding on the weekend I could possibly make it.
I have been there before and actually video taped it in my 993TT. I got a camera mount at the suggection of another local Rennlister who I was going to meet up there. My wife and I went for the day (in October). I drove it twice and had an absolute blast, got the whole thing on video but I need a video editor to add some music for me to make it look cool. You can hear the engine until the end of first gear then's it's all wind noise. I also tried two different mounting positions: at the back of the rook facing forward (got the hood in the pics) and left side rear hip above the wheel (great view for a camera).
We stopped for pics a few times but it was mostly blowin and goin!! The wife had fun but never let go of the door handle!!
