JPP (hopefully doesn't stand for jp patches)...the silver w/green interior is one of the most beautiful combinations...i like it better than the silver/red...

yeah gary emory does some great stuff...i remember him explaining to me that he paints the 356 sheetmetal light gray instead of black so he can detect oil leaks better...that was about 15 years ago at the annual 356 bull session here in seattle

those late 80's/early 90's days were fun in the 356 world...you could find nice solid drivers for $6-8K and the internet didn't interfere w/those hard to find cars buried in some small town newspaper.

oh yeah, backi in the day when shine down license lights weren't more expensive than rolex watches

if you ever get a chance to get to port townsend, gary's old friend ron rummage who i've known for years has a beautiful bed and breakfast called the quimper inn...he and his wife sue are great people and nothing like talking shop at 8am during breakfast

Funny you mention this place. In late 1987, I bought a new cabriolet from University Porsche/Audi in Seattle and our first 'drive' was to Port Townsend to stay at the Quimper Inn, although I'm pretty sure it was before the Rummage's owned it. On the way up to the Mukilteo ferry, I hit a patch of black ice in front of the Boeing 747 assembly hangers and slowly spun around at about 60 miles an hour. Luckily we didn't hit anything, but I think we both had to change our underwear when we got checked into the room

JPP.. nice save on the 356, It's interesting to see how many Speedsters, and 356's in general are being brought back from a dead and discarded state. I have a 58 A that's awaiting it's time for restoration, it's an outlaw and will be restored as such. I've owned it since 86 and many other cars have com and gone in-between. Keep us posted!

That's the way to do it, Paul, just hang on to it until it's time. This car's been sitting in a pile in the corner of a garage since '81. The right set of circumstances came together and it just made sense to do it now. It's an auto industry mini-stimulus package... just tryin' to do my part ...

Now that looks like a fun project. I have always loved the 356's.

JP- Rillo's Restoration in Kent, WA. On East Valley Highway down the street from Harbor Freight and Ranch 99. He has a guy Ted who comes in to do technical metal fabrications, replacement panels etc.
Jim Shue is the local 356 guru and will take on reassembly projects when his schedule permits. I'll post some photographs of cars and the shop for you later.

Thanks, Harlan, I'd appreciate that. I met Jim Shue a few years ago at the Annual '356 Bull Session', he's a nice guy and really knowledgeable.

Wow, that's a project and a half. Looks like your 356 lucked out and found a great custodian, YOU. VERY COOL!

You should post this on the 356 forum too. It doesn't get much movement (posting), but people do love to look at restoration pictures.

Good point Joanne, you're right. Any help with how to cleanly cross-post to another forum would be greatly appreciated (anyone). I've seen it done between here and the 993 Turbo forum, just need a tip or two, otherwise, I'll just post a link in a thread over on 356 to here ...

JP,
Great project. My wife and I definitely want a vintage Porsche in addition to the 993, and she loves the 356s. I look forward to seeing more of the project.

hey jp-

any updates? it's been a couple weeks since i've been out working on mine. the holidays were a crazy time and also the fact that it's FREEZING in my back garage makes it tough to get anything done on mine.
