Welcome, as a fairly new p-car owner , I would like to add emphasis to your words about the people on this forum and the knowledge that is shared. It has been invaluable to me and as a quadraplegic (yes I put hand controls in my p-car!) the pictures help me "see" the things I can't get access to because of the wheelchair.

Not sure what tires yet. Recommendation?
I'm torn with the idea of lowering it.
While it would look and handle better, its a reasonable amount of work to swap out springs when the shocks may only last to 40K and then it would have to be done again. I'm reading up on ROW M033 and m030 springs, not sure I know what's what yet..

Dan,
Welcome! Nice car, and in the fastest color too.
If you are interested in DEs you are in the right region. Chicago Region PCA has a very active DE group, and most of the tracks are less then two hours drive for you. The 2009 season is over, but you are in good shape for the 2010 season. It starts with first time DE instruction at Blackhawk Farms in Beloit, WI, I think in April. They do an event each month at BHF, two events at Road America, at least one event at Autobahn CC, and one event at Gingerman in Michigan. I cannot speak highly enough of the Chicago Region guys, they are friendly, helpful, and active.
I recommend you keep some nice street tires on the 17s and put some Michelin Pilot Sport Cups on the 18s and go DE'ing next summer.

Thanks for the kind words. Yes, the mystery **** is the radar detector. There are 2 LEDs next to the tach for the front and rear sensors. Its also supposed to have laser defuser, which I thought was the front plate frame.
Slippery slope indeed. I've got a used set of hollow spoked turbo twists that need some painting to keep me busy over the winter.

I never found out if the system could be upgraded as the Valentines could, but it seemed to work about as good as my Passport portable one.

Happy to help out Dan. In fact if you decide you want to do anything with the suspension, be it springs or better I'd be happy to help you with the install. We could probably knock it out in a day. It truly is a very nice car having seen it with my own two eyes. It appears to be in damn near close to new condition.
Hope you enjoy it. drive it like you stole it,
Nick
