Super-super rare! original Gt2 introduced for '96 model year,,,most I have seen have actually been '96 registered,it could be a very early car,,Evo version, was out for '98 model year.
Who knows, it may be a 993 Turbo, which has been extensively modified, which the doting owner refers to as his GT2
At least in europe, the 993 Turbo was available sooner and in larger numbers than the factory Gt2

He posted the below info and photo. I asked him to start a new thread;
Here's a picture of the car. Are you serious that I should start a new thread? I bought the car in from Europe in 2001, so it's been around Boston for a few years. Interesting history since it was originally a special order for Dubai and may be the only 4WD GT2 from that era, since it started out as a 4S and was then built to GT2 specs in the Porsche race department.

Before I read the above I thought something was amiss being that the car is Arena Red and has the regular Carrera seats. Beautiful car and interesting history indeed. We need more pics!!!

How is it a Gt2, if it doesn't have a Gt2 chassis number???...Lets not mention, the sunroof, headlight wash, interior, wheels etc...How much did the factory race department actually do?...suspension, gearbox oil cooler etc...
Certainly an interesting and nice looking car, but I am fascinated as to how this is now a Gt2?
cheers

Beautiful car. But is it a "real" GT2? Nonetheless, it's nice.
I wonder why it was built this way in the first place, instead of the Dubai customer simply ordering a GT2? It would be interesting to know more of the history, specs, etc.. I hope the owner will post and let us in on it.

Back in the 90's the "special wishes department" could do pretty much anything the customer wanted (which is not the case anymore). If you had money back then, sky is the limit at the Porsche factory. This car obviously started life as a C4S and still has the 4WD drivetrain (according to the owner). Therefore, it will never be a "real" GT2, even if it was rebuilt to full spec. in the factory using only original parts. That is if you are picky. It's a stunning looking car regardless and would be very interesting to know exactly what was done to her (including more pics). IMHO, this is what makes the 993 so special; you never know what will show up as they can pretty much be specified to meet the expectations of a particular customer.
Very nice and Welcome to Rennlist!!
