If you like the tip get the tip if not, get the stick. I personally wanted a stick, but don't think getting a tip is a sin and, if it was the right car, I would have gotten a tip if that was my only choice. Though that means my wife would want to drive it. ;-)
I owned a 1996 993 C4S previously, but the car's mileage was getting close to 100K, so I sold it to find something nicer. I have not driven a TIP before. I have not seen one for sale locally in the past 3 months. I owned a BMW M3 SMG before and wondered if it was a little closer to it. From what I have read, I think it is pretty much an automatic transmission, not quite a F1 like transmission I was hoping it would be. I think the car I was looking at was close to being the right car: 1998 (last year of the 993), factory aero kit, silver and nice boxster leather interior.

I am looking at a couple of other 993 at this time, we will see if it pans out. Thanks for all your inputs.

you forgot to say "AND WHEN IT WAS BRAND NEW..."

Sorry, but I doubt there's a non-turbo widebody out there getting into the $60k's these days, regardless of the transmission

+1......unfortunately. I wish C2S's were bringing in the $60's and $70's.

I like the interior on that car. Wish Porsche made more brown interiors back in the 90s. Only thing I would probably change is the dash. I'd get that in black.

I believe that is Wilhoit.

I did chuckle at aggressive driving while drinking coffee and talking on the cell phone though.

he forgot to mention...lol..from another post...

the guy that drives around in his 993 Tip with his Izod sweater draped over his sholders, with the collar on his Polo golf shirt sticking straight up in the back, sipping the no fat latte, while lightly feathering the gas pedal with his Cole Han deck shoes (no socks of course) while admiring the crease in his black & red Izod golf shorts (gotta coordinate with the car) while checking out his reflection in the rear view mirror through his look-at-me tear drop, bronze colored designer sunglasses?

I think a TIP is the way to go....(sorry TIM)....reasoning:

you can drink your Latte, text message, change you XM radio station, open or close you CAB AND have a conversation with your passenger ALL AT THE SAME TIME!! Now try this with a Stick! You will still be driving in first gear...and probably blow up your engine and come running to Rennlist to bitch about it!!

Oh man, I need a tip. Got royally pissed at by someone when she found out I chose not pick up her phone call while driving my manual 993. Didn't buy my logic of having focus on driving the mountain road.

In my search I did drive a 993 Tip Cab. I wasn't disappointed but it definitely didn't shift as fast as my 06 A8L, but it was no slouch. I can guarantee if that my car was going to be more of a daily driver, I would want Tip. The Bay Area traffic almost demands it and they seem to be more readily available here. Actually surprised you haven't seen one in the last 3 months, but I am no expert.

I would say #1 priority is to test drive a Tip...regardless if it is the 993 you are interested in. I think that will help your search for an answer. As they say...Proof of the pudding is in the eating. Of course, they really don't say that...today they say the proof is in the pudding...but what does that mean?

What happens with Tip trans when you spin at speed? -- rolling backwards and such.
