That's just one of the GT2 works of art that Rennlister PorscheMeister has for sale.

I guess Jochen is selling all his toys (his black 'street' Gt2 is for sale as well).

What isn't new on that car? Hard to find an "original" piece according to the listing. Um, how many pieces did the car start out in..."The roll cage was restored as necessary"

Honest question... I guess its a race car and you expect parts to be replaced, but when does a "historic" car become simply a historic tub with new stuff bolted on? I'd like a little patina on my "historic" car, but that's just me maybe.... Bracing for commentary...

Bad editing on my part to shorten....
More recently, between April of 2008 and August of 2009, the car was entirely restored from top to bottom by Andial. Besides the tub, almost every component is new, and the total cost of the restoration was approximately $384,557.88
....
The engine is completely new, including the case, which was supplied and stamped by Porsche in Germany. .... Everything was replaced with new parts, regardless of function or condition, right down to the engine sheetmetal.
.....
The roll cage was restored as necessary.
.....
All body panels were replaced....
carbon fiber doors
spoilers/splitters and brake components (including rotors, hardware, calipers)
All four fenders were replaced, as were the deck lids, and many other smaller items like the rocker covers door handles, and latches. The gearbox was completely redone ....
The clutch, pressure plate, and clutch fork
half shafts were replaced, and the fuel cell restored.
New JRZ shock absorbers
....
The car was repainted in its entirety, and the car was fitted with new seals and all new lights. The 1997 Daytona-winning livery was recreated
....
edit:
ps. don't get me wrong....I do appreciate the heart & soul (& wallet) put into this. And wouldn't turn down a test drive...

Keith-- I'm guessing Mr. Rohr's goal was something akin to building a brand-new 993 GT2, yet one that had legitimate racing history & successes. If so, that approach nearly requires replacement of everything that can be put on in new condition.
Similar concept to 100% restoring a high-mileage auto of museum significance into a concours d'elegance level of untouched perfection. Just my opinion, hopefully Jochen will weigh in here. From talking to some folks close to this project at Laguna Seca, that was the impression I came away with.

They didn't fix the door strap correctly so I'm out on this one.

No one can really claim that it wasn't well maintained. As long as the car has its original build serial number plates, it'll have value.

Default clarifications

the tub is all original, has the factory serial number and production number. The body upon closer inspection still shows plenty of scars collected over the years of racing.

The rollbar was fixed and put back to original factory specs where the NASCAR inspired and IMSA required door beam extensions were.

The pic of the shell in post 6 of this thread obviously only shows the tub of the car. Engine (and parts thereof), gearbox, fuelcell, etc. in their unrestored state can't be seen in that pic. The car was already apart at that stage.

Race engines (especially turbo charged..) take a lot of maintenance. After years of racing ALL components will have been exchanged/replaced at some time.

This car came out too nice (did I just say that?) for the track...it needs to find a new home in someone's collection. I need to get back into a track car I can use without worrying about getting rockchips!!

Stay tuned...working on that right now, veeery interesting track car!

Best,

PM

Very nice, so how does it work selling such a car in the US?

Do you post the classified ad and then just wait for Mr Seinfelds representative to call?
