Not necessarly--if you dont feel good about a place, dont rent it. I dont rent from anyone who doesnt have a website, pictures, or reviews. But thats me when it comes to travel and renting places. I have travel and leisure down to a science.

I speak with about 1 in 7 guests. I have met 3 parties in 2 years. No one has ever asked me for a reference because they are posted.

Manhattanlodgings.com specializes in brokering "illegal" sublets, i.e., just short term for people out of town, etc., Legit...I used them when I let them sublet my place for 3-4 months on my honeymoon. They screen peeps pretty hard, keep CC for damages, etc.

We found a place near Stuyvesant Park...an old church converted to condos. A little more than we were intending to spend but real nice and will be a treat.
