Default Front brake rotor replacement

I have a shimmy in the front end and it seems be exasperated around 55-60 mph. I do see some steering wheel shake and shimmy when under braking. The wheels were checked thoroughly and no dents and balance is perfect. Brand new tires.
With the FL wheel removed I rotated the hub and I observed that there is uneven resistance as the rotor passes through the pads. The pads look good. Could this confirm that the rotor is warped? The car has 24K on it, and I was thinking of doing a DIY on the rotors. Should I replace the pads at the same time even though they look OK?
Recommendations on rotors, should I just go OEM?

I'd go pads and rotors, but that's just me!

With such low miles car has done alot of sitting still. Could be a slight rust deposit on rotor(s) where the pads were in close contact for a long time. A good brake or machine shop should be able to take a very slight pass on the lathe to clean them up. Thickness must not be less than 30mm when clean. NOT recommended for racing applications.

"it seems be exasperated around 55-60 mph"

with new tires... even if it was perfectly balanced but not "road forced" you will experience slight shimming if your tire was not "matched" with the rim... "its like the tire and rim is going down the road like an egg" as explained by my mechanic and by Hunter...

Unlikely that your rotor is warped. One possibility is uneven pad transfer on the rotor. A few good hard stops from 60 mph down to 5 mph might clean this up.

X2

There's no way that your car needs rotors at 24K, unless most of those miles were on the track.

OK, do you think it needs to be "bedded in" or could there be something with alignment of the front?

Or it could be from A-arm bushings. Quit common on the 993s now as they have all reached the big 10 mark.

Is this a DIY for a novice or is it major $$?

If your rotors were warped, you would experience pulsating through the brake pedal and, under hard braking, the whole car would shake. Steering wheel shakes when it's suspension...I tend to agree w/Robin...bushings.

You can order the a-arm bushings from Chris Walrod as a complete arm, or the busching by itself. To replace the A-arm it fairly easy, to do the bushings on the other hand is not.

Thanks for input. There is no pulsating in the pedal just in the front end and steering. Would this be due to sitting for a long time? The car was last driven by the PO maybe 3 years or more before I bought it.

I agree with the front bushings as the likely culpret. My car had a similar issue. Replace the whole thing, MHO.

Best regards,
Don
