Default Need a Throttle Position Sensor for RSR

I had issues at Silverstone in the RSR. Engine lost power and hunted badly. Just missed the pit lane entry and had to do another lap. Happened straight after filling with fuel. Spent ages checking stuff (helped /hindered by being full race prep'd) and having no luck. Just as I thought the car and I would be going home separately, a friend asked if we had checked the TPS. Doubly luckily an other friend had a spare in his van so we swapped them over. Thankfully that was the problem, what are the chances?

Any way, i'd like to carry a spare as its easy to swap and failed once. Porsche want over £100 + VAT which seems stupid for such a simple part. I recall the Porsche part number was 944.xxxxxx so don't know if I can use an earlier part. The one on the car doesn't have a part number so can't check that Porsche are even quoting for the correct part.

I also lost the screw that holds one of the rear light clusters, so could do with one of those too.

Any chance you can dig up the part # from a previous receipt?

That is very likely a Bosch part and available outside of Porsche.
If you can get a Bosch number off of it I can use that also...

something like "0 280 122 004"

It might be the same TPS used on other 993s... 944 606 116 01

Thats it. Just found where I wrote it down. Can you confirm that 944 606 116 01 is the item I marked in the picture?

thats a throttle switch for a 968. pelican sell them for 100 US. i wouldnt call it a stupid little part. its certainly stopped your car from running. so you own a 968 CS a 965 a 993 RSR and a 320se and your worried about spending $100?

The part you marked in the pic is the TPS (Porsche calls it the "throttle-valve switch") as best I can tell... my RSR exposure is pretty minimal and the TPS is in a much different location on a standard 993
Normally it would be on the butterfly valve shaft in the throttle body.

If that is the same part # you found, then it is the same as the TPS used by other 993s and some other pcars.
About $85 USD

The part on your RSR should have a part Bosch # on it. If you confirm the # that would clinch it.

Because he worries about $100 parts gives him the ability to own what he owns........

Maybe i was a little harsh on the OP as he seems to be after a spare TPS.
Trophy,
So your saying that to own a great garage of cars you must not spend your money to maintain them? We have many customers that use to think like this. such rare cars must me maintained regardless of cost. if you cannot afford to maintain the car regardless of cost you should not own the car. It would be a shame to see such a rare car be neglected
James E is lucky that porsche decided to use a 968 TPS. they could have had a TPS that was made exclusivly for a 993 RSR. then he would be paying $1000 or maybe more

I agree that these cars must be maintained, I was refering to the attitude of looking at price, and always wanting to save where possible. All the wealthiest people I know penny pinch......

I think that $1000 may be conservative. I seen what maintenance is on the small production models as the number of cars produced goes down the subsequent price of the parts goes up....good ol' supply and demand.

The TPS can't be more than a variable resistor. So £115 (inc VAT) seems a little steep. If I wanted to I could put this on:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...m=270406897134

Basically £105 cheaper for what is the same item, although the part number has dropped the last '1'

As far as being tight with my cash is concerned, you bet I am. Why waste £105 when I could spend that on a Track Day, Tank of fuel, Party Girls,.... That said, if you saw what I spent on cars last year I don't think any one would call me "Cheap".

Sorry i'm not sure I follow you. Porsche UK claim the part number is "944 606 116 01".

It is just a variable resistor, I checked with a volt meter. I'm sure there are different quality components around but I could buy 10 off ebay for the price of what Porsche want and it only takes 2 mins to change on the RSR. I agree the part is important in as much as it doesn't work with out it, but that's not an excuse to charge stupid money for it.

with you I agree. the porsche part number is correct.
The original bosch part is prone to malfunction with heat after few years.
The chinese part is prone to malfunction with heat after a few hours.
When it malfunctions, reads as if throttle open to max (5 volts)

OK, fair comment. A few years is probably better than a few hours. FVD also sell them for 80 euros plus taxes.
