+2 State Farm. I've been with them forever. My 98 C2S daily driver costs $556 annually with multi car discount and 7500 mile limit (they've never checked). I have an agreed value collector policy with Hagerty on an 88 M6 for a lower premium.

Nationwide is less than $600/yr each for the C4S, RSA or yellow car. I usually only actually insure one of the three for road use though, then it's about $150/yr for comprehensive.

I insure all of my collector cars with American Modern insurance so I get a multiple car discount. I have a 3K mile a year limit on the 993 and it has a agreed value of $35K, married and 37 YOA. Limited to club and nice day driving, no taking to work. I went around and around with the underwriter on value. I wanted the value to be $40K because it only has 32,000 miles and he said that he could not find any comps that reflect the value being that high. I would have to have a prof. appraisal to get the higher limit. We settled on $35K. I think it runs about $400 a year. Why do these cars not book out? I think my car, even with the miles books out at about $20K on NADA or KBB.

Wow- I'm paying about 900 per year with Hagerty for an agreed-upon value of $35k at the moment- apparently way too much based off this thread. I am 34, married and the 993 only sees about 4k miles per year (I think I have a 5,000 mile limit). I'll be keeping my eye on this thread to see who my new insurer will be!

Cliff notes on "agreed upon value" and its advantage, please.

"agreed upon value" says the insurance company will pay you the "agreed upon value" for your car in the case your car is "totaled" instead of the "blue book value", which in the case of many of our p-cars can be considerably less.

That's one of the reasons I am looking at collector's insurance. That and the fact it is usually considerably cheaper if you can live with the restrictions, e.g., limited miles driven/year, required storage in a locked facility, not to be used for commuting, etc.

Just because you think you have agreed value doesn't mean you actually have it because that term gets thrown around a lot and doesn't always mean the same thing policy to policy. You need to read the actual policy to be sure and it should be clear that it pays the full agreed value no questions asked and not a depreciated amount of that value. Also as a word to the wise I know from both direct and business related experience companies with cheap premiums tend to be tougher about your choices when it comes to getting repairs done. I'm not trying to disparage any specific companies but based on my experience those with policies from State Farm or Allstate should be a bit, shall we say, careful.

I went with Heacock Classic on the 997 as I wanted Stated Value coverage. They were cheaper than Hagerty.

On the 993, I stayed with GMAC along with my other cars, as I plan on driving it a lot more when I retire at the end of the year, plus stated value is not as important on it, altho I saw a cherry white C2S with aerokit II for sale at Euromasters Classic Cars last night for $59,995!

The 993 is a little over $600 a year as a pleasure vehicle, no restrictions. I have never had a claim with them in the past 5 years, so no comment on their service.

+1 for regular insurance, no restrictions, unlimited mileage. Agreed value $30k, State Farm, cost $602 per year.
You can do that with SF? I just had a total, and then a total battle, starting with them at KBB or something equally ridiculous...

I have my Bronco through Hagerty---$16,500 appraised/agreed value in writing---$295 a year with zero deductible--includes towing.

I went down the path with my 993 but there wasnt any major savings so I stuck with State Farm and no restrictions. I pay about $700 a year on my 993.

i was told through my agent that my 993 wasn't old enough to have a "agreed upon value". maybe that's an ohio law? if something were to happen to it (total) i would have to show comps to prove value if they came back with a less-than-acceptable offer.

i did have an appraisal done on my 356 and have a pretty high insured value for that car; it's considered a classic with mileage restrictions.

i think i'm around $900/yr for both through central insurance. the 993 doesn't have any mileage restrictions.

No, you can't do it with SF. See my earlier post. I'm not sure what people are being told by SF but I was told(2x), and also by the head office in IL, that I cannot do an agreed upon value. People will find out that when the time comes, they will have to fight just to get KBB pricing, which we all know is too low as it is.

As Roche, says, these cars are not collector cars (yet) and can't be insured as such by normal underwriters.

7500 mile limit (they've never checked).
And they won't until you get in an accident and the adjuster calculates your annual mileage. If you're over by an appreciable amount then it could be grounds for them to deny coverage. The best policy is a combo of low price, good coverage and claims paying history. The low bidder is seldom, if ever the best overall deal.

I just got a quote from Heacock for my 993 with an agreed value of $35K. The premium is $801/year. I thought classic car insurance was supposed to be relatively cheap?? Grundy was by far the least expensive quote I got, but now I'm wondering why...
