Default Throttle Steer? Annoying - normal?

Last winter I replaced my stock suspension with Bilstein Shocks and H&R springs and sway bars on my 96 993 C2. Since then I have increasingly noticed a considerable amount of annoying throttle steering. When I lift off of the throttle ( in a straight line ) the vehicle will veer to the left. When I get back on the throttle it will correct back to the right. This is while holding the steering wheel in a straight line position. If I should happen to get on the brakes at the same time it can be a little concerning. Now that I have noticed it I really don't like it and want it to go away. Is this normal? What have I got going on and what do I need to do to fix it?

Thanks
Ron

Did you get an alignment after the suspension work?

It's possible your new suspension is now putting additional strain on older worn-out parts and bushings. I'd take a hard look at tie-rod ends and control arm bushings.

I should have mentioned that I did get an alignment at the same time. All bushings and control arms etc. look and feel OK.

When braking on a flat, even surface does it track straight?

If no, as long as brakes/rotors are good I'd still think alignment needs attention. Did the shop that did the align/cb know 993s?

Other than that... how are your engine mounts?

Also check to be sure that your sway bar droplinks have no pre-load. Best to check with driver's weight and with at least 1/2 tank of gas. Did alignment shop take that into account as well?

Also, check your tire pressures, especially the rear, on both sides.

I get the same issue in my car when the pressure is as little as 2 lbs different left-to-right.

+1

also sounds like there could be a kinematic toe issue...sometimes the alignments miss that one (or ignore it...)

If you go to an alignment shop that doesn't have the proper tools for measuring and adjusting kinematic toe, then go somewhere else. :-)

Also, if you have the H&R springs you car will most likely be too low to use the factory kinematic measuring tools (that hang off of the rear control arms). In this case, purchasing the tools from Autometrics (http://www.autometricsmotorsports.co.../ktt/index.htm) is worth every penny.

Ron,

They didn't get the alignment correctly. There may be other things wrong here, but for sure the kinematic toe is not right.

Default kinematic toe

I am pretty sure that the kinematic toe was ignored. I asked about it, as it was mentioned here on numerous times, but was brushed off as unimportant. I am now guessing that it is real important and they most likely did not have the guage/tool to do it. I will have to do some more research on local shops with the ability to perform this alignment properly. I have now probably driven over five thousand miles like this and the rear tire wear looks great. No signs of irregular wear whatsoever.

Any one care to explain in more detail how the difference in kinematic toe vs regular toe would solve my situation. I thought I had a front end issue and not a rear alignment issue.

What does an alignment with the kinematic toe cost? Not that it matters as I can not stand it the way it is.

Anyone know of a shop in Vancouver, BC that can do this? I am thinking there is nobody on Vancouver Island.

Thanks for all the input.

KT keeps the toe correct as the spring is compressed.
