No affiliation, just noticed this on CL today:

From the picture it looks like it might have sport seats.

I'd highly recommend it! Short of driving one home from Brazil, it's a rare opportunity for a serious road trip - without the obvious problems you'd run into piloting your new 993 through Central America. It is a bummer to wear through a set of tires in a single trip though...

My daughter has been in Denali for 3 months and will be coming home in mid-September. Maybe I should buy it and let her drive it home (Yeah...Right!)

I grew up in Anchorage and have driven the Alcan (many years ago)... those would be very hard miles unless that "highway" is highly upgraded from what it used to be.

But, I'd fly up there and drive it back for you. Beautiful ride.

Arctic Import Repair in Anchorage is a good shop for Porsches - ask to talk with the owner (Bruce) about a PPI. I've had a lot of work done there and they do a good job.

There is also a Porsche dealer in Anchorage - google "Morrison Auto Group". If the current owner had work done at the dealer then they are likely already familar with this car (it's the only Porsche dealer in Alaska).

I wouldn't worry too much about salt if the car has been in Alaska awhile. Believe it or not they don't use salt on the roads up here! Salt isn't real effective below 20 degrees anyway, and the sun angle in the winter here is quite low so the snow doesn't melt off the roads. Except for the main roads, it's common not to see pavement for at least 2 months of the winter. You just drive on the packed snow. Most people use studded tires as well.

I grew up in Anchorage and have driven the Alcan (many years ago)... those would be very hard miles unless that "highway" is highly upgraded from what it used to be.
The Alcan is really not that bad anymore. I've driven it twice in a Porsche (993 and 951), and my dad did it in a Boxster two years ago. Except for road construction the pavement is reasonable the entire trip. In the construction zones you just drive really slow. I managed the drive last year in my 993 without a single significant scratch to the car (did have a bra on the front though - but took off when raining). There's hardly any traffic so if you do need to slow down through a bad section it's not like you have cars breathing down your neck to pass.

Actually the price is pretty decent, not sure it's way below market value though. I see the car is equipped with the cold weather package, necessary for northern winters: otherwise known as the rear wiper (and AWD).

Ad does list sport seats.

I agree with Steen, very little salt (if any) used on Alaska roads. I have driven my '95 993 each winter for 14 years in Anchorage (68,000 miles) with no rust/corrosion/salt issues. Truth be told, it is a blast to drive on snow and ice.....I run Nokian Hak's (no studs) and they are super tires in all all conditions except glare ice.
Does anyone recall the color and price for the car advertised on Craig's? Thought I knew most of the local cars......

You joined 6+ years ago and this is your first post,,, intriguing. If I had to guess I'd say the car is on it's way to the S.F./Bay Area!?

Yes, I've been looking THAT long. :-) And became a rennlist member as soon as I found one.

It turned out that this car is a:

96 993 C4S
69k miles
Polar silver/classic gray
6 speed
M030 (US) suspension
Sport hardback seats
OEM Litronics
HiFi option with DSP
Aluminum gauges
Aluminum shifter/ebrake/running boards
CDR-210 w/ CDC-3 changer
Rear wiper

Car turned out to be a CA car most of its life until it was moved to AK this January. It had its homecoming nine months later around Labor Day. PO racked up less than 800 miles during its stint in AK.

I've been waiting for a good sunny day in SF to take pics, but I'll cave and post a crappy camera pic.
