Default Time for a top end rebuild - Seriously considering 9m heads

Hey guys,

My 993 is burning more and more oil so it is time for a top end re-build (at 40k miles, which of majority track miles).

Assuming it is just valve guides, what would be the budget for this? Just parts and necessary machining work as I will be doing all the labor my self.

How much my stock heds with full gear (cams, valves, worn guides etc.) would be worth?

I need to somehow convince my wife that investing 7000Eur in 9m kit makes sense.

Use the safety angle. With more power you can safely power out of harm's way.

Juha G:

You must resist the power of the Moffat. I know of which I speak.

BNeg, borrow, or steal to do it. Or wait until I need one and be jealous of my results. Hopefully a ways doen the road, but this is in the cards for mine. Make sure you have a good shop to do the install & mapping. Who is the big player in FL that does mapping? Promotive? Did they shut down?

Juha,

You are obligated to buy the 9M heads. Your wife will come back after a few years....

I'd budget in the $1600 range for labor, guides, seals, and exhaust valves.

About $ 1200-1300.

Matt's advice was pretty good, but I think you'd need a lot more modifications to see the benefits of the 9M heads.

Thanks, that's what I was figuring. So in case it's only the guides, I'd probably just get that done and look at the power upgrades later on. But if there's more stuff needing replacement (i.e. more $$$), I would really consider getting the 9m heads.

With lot more modifications you probably mean the intake, exhaust and ECU mapping. I'm already running an open exhaust with no cats so I'd just need to get the intake done and I have a shop closeby who's got 20+ years of experience in building the fastest rally and road race cars.
What else is it that I would need?

It would be nice to be able to keep up with the GT3's...

Juha,

Steve Weiner is "Your Man". I sent him my heads all the way from the Middle East to install his special valve guides with Love and Tender Care and my car now runs superbly. So I want to publicly thank him for the good work and state that I highly recommend his work.

I think you can see a modest improvement with cams, valves, and software...but boy wouldn't it be nice to put the engine on a pallet bound for 9M...

Yessir, precisely. To use the additional airflow, I'd be changing intake systems to an ITB setup, different cams, and naturally, different ECU mapping.

Keeing up with a 400+ HP GT-3 is another matter and while possible, its certainly not for the budget-limited,...

Hey, the yellow car can easily stay ahead of any GT3 or RS that I've crossed paths with so far.........

In other words, there's more to life (or a lap time) than pushing an accelerator pedal.
