Default Car Value Question (OT)

I was hoping to get your opinions on something a little different.

After a failed financing arrangement, I will soon be repossessing a 1981 BMW M1 with about 9000 miles. The car has not been modified and has been restored. White ext. black int.

Any opinions on value / market for something like this? Any good resouces or ideas as to how I can unload it?

I apologize for the OT but there are many car savvy people on this forum whose opinions I respect and I don't frequent the BMW forums.

And besides, there may be some 993 content if it ends up being parked in my garage!

Ideas appreciated...

Cheers,
Bob

Saw an M1 in last month's Hemmings. Forgot the actual price but very north of $100k. Sounds like the best place to go for serious car buyers even in these tough times. My car collector neighbor sold two nice collector cars in the past month with ads in Hemmings. They went for the right price, not discounted.

Just got off my butt and looked it up for you. It also is white with 13,000 miles. Only 450 produced. He is asking $173,500. Page 289 in the August 2009 Hemmings.

This would be a great time to get a Rennlist Fractional Shares Ownership program going.

One went No Sale at RM this year for 120K, my neighbor sold his at RM in 07 for 130 something. I would recomend selling it through RM or one of the auction houses if you can wait until January.

Keith Martin's '09 Sports Car Market Price Guide shows a range of $75K - $125K. But I think it was published before the economy really tanked, so maybe those values are a little high.

These are helpful - thanks. Gotta love the German's - there's one listed there with 75,000 km's on it - this must be a record.

A BMW racer friend from a local email list's dad has one, and I think he's owned it for 20-25 years so they're plugged into the market. Let me know and I'm sure he'd be happy to give you his thoughts.
