SOLD: a bitter sweet moment

Chris,
Nope. Monterey place is still not sold. Would love to sell that one. Luckily we have someone living there and that is self-sustaining. The second/vacation home market will be dead for quite a while now that Home Equity is but a thing of the past.
Blessing is that I could have a nice place to hang in future August Monterey Historics and Laguna Seca events. No go this weekend though.

We see this one through the windshield - kids are getting older and we are talking about downsizing.
Nice area - my dad lives nearby and I played a lot of golf (before you bought the lot though) there as a kid. Beautiful house as well, but as was said, you and your family make it your home.

He lives off El Monte. I'm a LAHS grad. I try to get down and see him more often than not since my mom died a few years ago. Fortunately he gets up to see us reasonably often.
Would be my pleasure to see you. Perhaps next time I'm down on the peninsula we can meet for coffee...

Bittersweet, I know. But you will design your next home, have it built, to your specifications. You can build in those features that you loved about your old home and that will give you a sense of stability when you move in. As someone said, this soon will be your new home, your family will be closer and enjoying your new home with you more. And you don't have to sell the RUF!!!!
Congratulations Pong. Have fun designing your new home, dreaming about it and all that goes with it. I wish you and your wife the best.

Your old house was beautiful, but you made the right move. Living debt free in this economy is great, and keeping your Ruf in the process is even better. I understand how it can be bittersweet- I spent about an hour today with my 16 month old daughter poking around the home where I live from age 1 to 23...definitely a place near and dear to my heart.

Hey Pong - you are keeping the RUF (which is good for so many reasons) - and you get to find a new garage/home for it too!
If your travels take you through Boston, let us know and we'll go in search of the best lobster rolls via the longest routes possible :-)

To all the inquiring minds, YEEEEEEESSSSS I am keeping the Ruf.
I love the car, and seems like no one is buying anything these days anyways, so may be it is just meant to be.

Congrats
Hi Pong,
So glad to hear you're keeping the RUF. There will always be good memories of the great BBQ you threw when Bob was visiting. Your driveway was filled with 993s!

We closed escrow on Friday, and it has not sunk in yet as to what it means. We do know that our life will be very simple compared to the last 15 years. No gardeners, no cleaning ladies, no loan payments, no fruit trees to pick up after, no 2 cats roaming the house.
It may take a few months to really feel the difference.
Luckily, we will look for the next spot to finally settle down and design/build our dream home. They will take us out in a box in the next house. We are looking for just as pleasant, if not more, of a surrounding, and I will apply all I have learned through these years and create an ideal retirement 'life-style' home. I am actually VERY excited with the thought of that.
As I said in one prior post: the next one will be better.

Hey Pong,
Don't move far, I didn't get to see your Ruf in person yet. I'm still searching for mine.
Congrats on the sale specially in this economy. Don't be down about selling the house, you made it into a "home" because of you and your family living there. The next house for sure will turn out better than the previous one, new memories, new experiences and as long as you have the Ruf in the garage. it's all good. )
All the best....
