Andreas, you are correct. I called the dealer and obviously I misheard (an age thing, I guess). The price of a windshield repacement on a Carrera GT is over $11,000, on a GT3 it's a little over a thousand as you said. His telling of the story of a local GT owner was very dramatic as the guy passed on the coating because he was sure his insurance would cover it. You can guess the rest of the story and now he has the film on his windshield.
