Oh man, this is killing me. I've done this successfully twice in about 10 10 yrs. Now I have a guy in CA who wants to buy my car, PPI came back clean except for the readiness codes. I've done the reset procedure twice - once yesterday and again just now. No joy. I followed it to the letter. This is holding up the sale. How hard is it to get a smog referee in CA to pass it?

Just to double-check, were you careful to follow this?

Had the problem that the battery died and I had no readiness codes. Did the driving cycle as mentioned
Start engine, let idle for approx. 2 min, 10 secs.
Accelerate to 20-30 MPH, Maintain steady speed for approx 3 min, 15 secs.
Accelerate to 40-60 MPH, Maintain steady speed for approx 15 mins.
Decelerate and come to a stop. Then:
Idle in Neutral for 5 mins. (manual trans.)
Idle in Drive for 5 mins. (Tiptronic trans.)
During the drive cycle, do not exceed 3,000 rpm or 60 mph.
What I can add to it are the following.
- The car has to have a cold start. So driving somewhere and having a warm car and do the drive does not work.
- Don't use curse control doing the 3 and 15 min drive.
Failed an inspection about a week ago and got tired of it. I ended up buying an AutoLink A519 OBD-II reader from Amazon and it has a IM ready test. The Porsche shop told me that had a problem with CAT and EVAP.
Checked with OBD reader and IM light showed as red (Not Ready). Spent about 1/2 an hour today going through the cycle and checked with the OBD reader again and it showed green. At the same time, it showed a problem with EVAP (X) even though it showed IM Ready. Called their support and they said that it will should pass inspection as long as the light is green.
Will take if for an inspection later this week and provide an update.
The other day after being told by the garage that it wasn't ready to be tested its this....
What happened? How did I go backwards? The battery wasn't disconnected. The shop only installed new piping between the body and the bumper on the front of the car, all the radio stations were intact etc.
I've done the drive cycle twice in a 96 C2 and nothing has changed. Beyond frustrated.
Well, I have until the end of August to pass smog. 3 set including misfire. After 2 drive cycles and shutting the car off the next start showed all 8 readiness codes set. Then a cel came on, p300, 301 and 302.
My theory is going under 3000 rpm to set codes gave me the misfire?
Any help is welcomed. I ordered plugs, rotors and caps. The wires are new.
Is this just a CA state dance? Do the state employees find it entertaining having you run around doing silly Monty Python Knights who say Knee stuff with your car for them to give you an inspection sticker?
Time for smog and of course my flags are not set. Tried this drive cycle twice and no bueno. Cold both times
2+minutes on idle
3+minutes between 20-30mph, (set on cruise control)
15+minutes between 40-60mph, (set on cruise control)
5+minutes of idle
Then tried below from - https://rennlist.com/forums/993-foru...s-are-set.html
1. Idle (Park for Automatic Transmission or Neutral for manual T ) for 10-15 min
2. Drive 8 miles @2200 RPMs
3. Drive 5 miles @2500 RPMs
4. Drive 8 miles @1800 RPMs
5. Idle (Park) for 3 min.
On the 1st and 2nd time using the innova 3100, the 5 flashing indicators would go solid then disappear as the readiness led goes from yellow to green and stay that way. When I unplugged and plugged it back in it would start of yellow with the 5 flashing indicators and then turn green
However once power to the car is cycled it does not turn green, just stays yellow with the 5 blinking indicators. This happens just with power to the ignition on (car not running) and with the car running.
Ideas?
Remember, to set the monitors (readiness codes) requires at minimum two uninterrupted trips
(no stopping of the engine) with a cold start (fully cold engine) between trips. Some '96 vehicles
require three trips.
Bottom line: Find someone with a Porsche tester - both trips can be done in about 30 minutes.
Without the tester, you never know when each trip has been completed,

Thanks Loren, every trip was performed cold and each step was extended. I'll try to find a porsche tester (to bad durametic doesn't have this functionality) but going to my Indy sounds better and better as this is a pain in the ****.
I went through the procedure last month with a 96 using the speed method and staying under 3,000 rpm. Needed two trips to get all 8 codes reset. The readiness codes did not reset until the car was turned off and started back up.
Good luck with the ritural.
