Retry - WTB: Mod'd C2S
All - I'm hoping you can help me find a 1997-1998 993 C2S. I don't want or need a garage queen. I'd like a clean car, between 40-70K miles, properly serviced, maintained (seals, strap, clutch, brakes, etc.), and with no issues. I'd prefer a car with tasteful modifications: springs, aero, carbon, exhaust, etc. I would prefer dealing with a Rennlister or enthusiast who's properly cared for the car.
My price range is the high thirties up to $43-45K, which I'd pay for the perfect car fitting the above description. I've looked at many C2Ss and C4s, but aside from a couple that got away, none have been right. I am looking for silvers and greys first, with black or tan interiors. I would consider a mint white or black car. No other colors.
So I ask: any ideas or leads? If I can't find one soon, I think I'll give in to my temptation to buy a GT3 or turbo (997). Help!
-Bobby

Might I be the only one of 44 viewers so far to suggest that cross shopping a normally aspirated 993 with either (US) generation of a GT3 or a 997 turbo seems odd? Free country, your money, buy what you want, etc etc, but to me it's as strange as me driving the 73.5 Targa out to the shop yesterday morning and driving the RS America home in the afternoon and asking myself which I'd choose. *** engined, left hand key and 5 speed transmissions.........but talk about totally different cars!

I am here to help!!!
You write, "buy a GT3 or turbo (997). Help!"
If you drive a GT3 or 997 Turbo, and subsequently drive a 993 Carrera S or Carrera 4S, these older car's performance will seem glaringly slow and sluggish. The inverse experience will work too...these cars are rocketships compared to the 993 NA cars.
Of course you wont be able to buy one of these rocketship cars for $43.0...and you probably will have to search hard, long and wide to find a flawless 993 Carrera S or Carrera 4S for $43.0.
The good news, you have a disposible pile of cash to play with. Well done!

Martin - that's right. The latter cars cost twice as much. I'd rather have a sweet C2S and the cash than a turbo. Problem is, I've been trying to find a nice C2S for awhile -- that is my preference in terms of budget and curing a longstanding itch. But if I can't find one in the next month or two, I may let fiscal responsibility slip and go for the turbo or gt3 (two other cars on my itch list).
So Race911 - technically it's not cross shopping LOL. If I can't find the right C2S, then there are plenty of GT3s and turbos out there at bargains in the 80s.

GT3s and 996 Turbo cars can be had in the 70's if you are an average shopped, less if you have wholesale connections.
Smith Volvo, San Luis Obispo, CA just sold a beautiful 993 Carrera S at under $40.0. Give Brent Smith a call, tell him what you want, what you are willing to pay, and he'll find it for you. That is all he does, in addition to running a Volvo/Lotus dealership, buys and sells used Porsche cars. Brent only takes on cars that are super clean, cosmetically and mechanically, with 0 horror stories. Brent is a rcing buddy of mine.

+993 on Brent Smith at Smith Volvo. The whole team is awesome, Guy Ober, Gabe, Strasse...all awesome to deal with and their inventory is nearly flawless regardless of miles.

Could I tempt you with a NB 1996 993 (Bilstein HD/ROW M030 suspension, RS short shift kit and engine mounts, and under 13K miles)? If you're interested, you can PM me for more details/photos.

no thanks on NBs.
I saw Brent's c2s. I thought it was priced too high, but regardless, I couldn't convince myself to go with the blue interior. otherwise, it was great.
as to the comment about gt3s and turbos, I was referring to 997s, not 996s. 997 gt3 and turbos are still in the $80s.

Truspeed has nice cars, went there this morning...
There are MAYBE a handful of C2S with under 85k miles for under $40k across the whole country (not including salt belt states). Under 50k miles good luck under $45k and more like $49k.
TBH, C2S mod'd for $40k is tough. Maybe a C4S for 40k with mods I suppose.
RPM, Wilhout, Sloan, Jeff Frazier in Colorado all have nice cars.
