The main issue in Canada is a dramatically smaller pool of cars to choose from, especially if you're looking for a special color/mileage/condition.

Importation from the US would entail 6.1% duty, 5% Federal tax, plus a bunch of ancillary lesser inspection/mod/importation fees. And you'll never get a posted exchange rate either.

Price may be a little high, but a US car is not a direct $ comp for a Canadian buyer due to the fees and importation issues.

That makes sense now Matt. Thanks for the explanation. Otherwise it would make sense to try to sell our 993's to Canada given the big delta in price.

I just got back to San Diego from a week in Quebec. The economy in Canada is much better than California. This fact might help the seller get a higher price.

Awesome 993 with all the good stuff. GL with the sale!

Nicely stated Matt. I'd add that a Canadian spec car will be worth more in Canada. From what I've seen roughly 10-20% more than a US "import." When it comes time to sell, the "local" (I find this term funny based on the physical size of our country) cars seem to sell much quicker as well, despite the price premium. Trolling the classifieds, I think you'll find more US sourced 993s for sale in Canada than "home market" cars.

BTW, I noticed the seats are listed as later "996" style sport seats. They appear to be the late 95 (03/95?) and later 993 sport seats rather than the similar looking 996 items. Were they installed recently or are they factory installed. Option code is 373 & 374 (left & right).

As Andreas said, WANT!
GL with the sale.

I saw this car in person today and can tell you that it is very, very nice! Anyone looking for a narrow body car should seriously consider it...

Hi Tim, you have a sharp eye !! The sport seats are from a 1995 993. It took me forever to source these and they cost me an arm and a leg. You should see my limp.....lol !

...the fees and importation issues...Matt Lane
And the importation issues will involve a huge amount of the Canadian buyer's time. While you can't put a value on this, because you're involved in an avocation rather than a vocation, if you multiply the hours spent arranging for the cross border purchase by an appropriate hourly rate, the number would be significant.

A self employed professional who's doing the "work" during office hours probably doesn't want to even think about this...

Keep it. The market is dead and I doubt that 44k 'will do it'. You need at least a lot of luck and patience to find a buyer. However, nice car an GL with ever decision you make.

FIRST, I think your car is gorgeous

SECOND, even at $43,900 (is the price USD?) ... a unique color, and decent miles, plus hard back seats etc - I think you would have a better chance ebay'ing the car ... if you were selling here.... correct me if I am wrong, but that money can buy a C4S with similar options... minus the arms and legs.

I would imagine, open market : $40-43,000 at most. (this is dealer selling price...private should be less)
Rennlist market : mid 30's
Speed Yellow market : High 50's

beautiful car though !

ps: I would post on ebay... give it a shot to get the exposure...and you can see where the bidding market is going... this will give you more info (assuming it is not sold) for selling the car privately.

European buyers are your best bet in this market and this time of year.

(The price is Canadian dollars. Conversion is about 89cents to the US dollar)

Interesting - do others feel that the "Rennlist market" will not pay as much for a car as he could get on the "open market"?

Not a criticism, just curiosity.

WOW
IMO you're blowing it if you sell this car.
it seems like you have SIGNIFICANT emotional involvement.

if your "baby" leaves, you'll regret it.

cheers
