Default Brake Pad? - OEM Textar = Genuine Porsche

I have searched the archive and a lot of people recommend OEM Textar w/ OEM Porsche rotors (not Zimmerman).

But is OEM Textar = Genuine Porsche pads? As Pelican sells an OEM Textar pad and an Genuine Porsche pad. Im just confused w/ the "OEM" term now

Joe,

You want the Genuine Porsche pads; these are a lot different from OEM Textars in terms of noise and temperature tolerances.

We used to sell both and now, all we use are the factory pads for street use.

So they are different. I see I see.

Lots of searching and reading on the shims, spiders, squeals, and all the works!

I use the OEM Textars and do not use the spiders (as I switch to race pads frequently). The OEM textars I find are silent even without the spiders.

I like 'em alot. Sometimes they see track use and are pretty good.

I got tired of this debate so I phoned Textar in Germany. I spoke to one of their Engineers. He confirmed that Textar make the OE pads for Porsche 993. He explained the only difference between Textar branded aftermarket parts and those you can buy from your Porsche dealer are the box they come in, and of course, the price.

I also phoned Zimmerman. They confirmed they do not make the OE 993 discs. Although, they explained the raw material comes from the same foundry and the parts are machined to the same specs and tolerances as the OE part. I've also phoned ATE, they didn't claim t be the OE supplier nor did Sebro. Through a process of elimination I think it's Brembo although I haven't got round to contacting them.

That may very well be the case, but my experiences with OEM Textars and Dealer-sourced pads are VERY different.

Might be just me,.....

I get my Textar's from the dealer...they came in a Porsche box with a Porsche part number on them....

are these different than the "OEM Textar's"???

The only Textar's I have used for the street have Porsche part numbers on them

Also I am a little confused about the Zimmerman statement above as the rotors I got came from the dealer in a Porsche box and are Zimmerman's...but they are NOT the aftermarket Zimmerman's you can get cheaper.

I don't know guys. I'm just reporting what I found. I made the enquiries regarding standard size discs and pads for a 993 C4. Perhaps your experiences relate to different sizes of discs. Are you running big reds, perhaps?

I'm an Engineer that works in the OE component industry so I take great delight in finding the OE suppliers for parts. I just tracked down a whole load of suspension parts for my BMW at about half BMW main dealer prices.

Callas also only recommends the dealer parts in the white-cream box wth the red lettering. I'm very happy with mine.

Autohaus AZ attempts to iron out this issue. My only takeaway is that they don't sell junk:
