wtb: rear hub for 993 (Cancel that. Mine seems OK after all)
Hi all,
I need to buy a rear hub for a 95 993. The wheel bearing retainer bolts backed off and machined a nice notch in the back of the hub.
Used cars... Grrr.
Anyway, please let me know if you have a lead for me.
Thanks,
Pete

Also, Sunset is a good choice. You know it's Porsche, and you know it's new. Their prices can't be beat compared to other dealers.
I needed a new hub a few years ago, and went with them.

Here are the bolts:
or here is a link
I took a close look at the hub and decided to reuse it. It has a fair amount of milling/wear, but all of it was in lettering or on raised portions of the casting. There was no cutting into the main body of the hub.
It looks to me like the bozo that replaced the rear bearings never bothered to tighten down the lower bearing retainer. Add to that the cv boot clamps that were too loose which allowed the grease to leak out everywhere. Confidence inspiring.
I really hate working on dirty cars, so I spent at least half a day today, in the 100 degree sun, cleaning off the layer of filth on the rear suspension. It is cleaner, not Andreas clean, but much better than it was.
Now I'm tired and sunburnt. Time for a beer.

Hi Chris.
Thanks for the offer on the hub. Hopefully I really didn't need it.
I added a link to the picture as well. hopefully that will work.
