Been there done that.
I highly recommend Bill Boys at Possum Hollow Motorsports. Absolute gentleman and knows all air cooled inside out.

He did my PPI, and spotted everything that needed doing. He'd also not affiliated to Holt either.
Really took fabulous care of my car, and I subsequently got the car serviced there (5 hour round trip from NYC!)
Tim offers straight cars, and 3 years later I am still a happy customer.
Good Luck
Phil
ps. if you goto Possum Hollow, say Phil from London in the black 993 says hi.

Just bought a 95 993 from Holt in April. His 'after the sale' help is incredible and I still ask questions which he answers almost immediately. I spent so much time talking with him and learning about his experience with air cooled 911s that I felt I could buy any car in his inventory without worrying about getting a bad car. A few issues will arise but nothing that makes you wish you went elsewhere to purchase a Porsche. I have driven 1,400 miles in the 3 months that have passed and I would go back to Tim in a minute to buy another. I did NOT have a PPI done and no regrets. I think I would have found out by now if something was a major problem. So far the things I didn't notice at purchase were the tires being too old (plenty of tread but date coded from 2000 and I didn't want to start my experiences with 9 year old tires), the interior dome light broken which I replaced for $40 and 3 drops of oil on my garage floor over 3 months time which could be lower gaskets to anything else mentioned in this 993 forum. I'm not too worried about it for a 14 year old car but I will check it out whenever I go in for a service. Once you drive the car with Tim you may not feel the need to have a PPI done either. Your decision. Good luck!

I bought my 993 from Tim in June 2008 and the entire experience, from start to finish, went great. I have driven it almost 6000 miles so far, with ZERO problems.
Being a first-time Porsche owner, one of the best parts was how much I learned about our cars. As others have mentioned, Tim is very knowledgeable and he and his guys took the time to educate me on the differences between the various models, years, etc., and what to look out for. They were very helpful in answering the many questions I had, both before and after the sale. If I buy another Porsche, it will most likely be from Tim, without question.
I had my PPI done at Dougherty's. That process went very, very smoothly, too. No issues at all and they were also very helpful, in showing me some of the mechanical things to watch out for, as a new owner.
Good luck, have fun! Enjoy the search!

BTW, I have nothing bad to say about Tim or what he sells. I absolutely love the coupe I purchased from him and, as noted by dmm993, he's great about assisting in the education of first time Porsche owners.
In fact, it being a nice day in Richmond, I think said coupe needs to go for a spin today!

Dougherty is good and is located relatively close to Holt.
Since I moved to PA five years ago, the majority of maintenance and repair work on my 993 daily driver has been done at Performance Automotive, 3239 Phoenixville Pike, Malvern. Pete and Paul own it and they specialize in Porsches. I've been uniformly pleased by the way they have handled things. Feel free to use my name. Check http://www.performanceautomotiveinc.com/ . Tel is 610-695-9545.
For the record, I have used Bill Boys at Possum Hollow for Audi repairs and had positive experience.
Good luck with your decision.

Oops, sorry for not logging in for weeks! I did my PPI at Dougherty's as well, and was very pleased. I flew down to test drive my car and also met Bill Dougherty and got a tour of his facility. They arranged with Tim to pick up the car, and once the car got a clean bill of health, I also had them flush the brake fluid, change the oil, and change the spark plugs. They had to take out the six lower plugs for part of the PPI, so they suggested to change the other six while they were in the car. Hope that helps!
