There are many good photo hosting sites out there for sharing pictures of our cars, but I was wondering which, if any, was favored by the Rennlist community. So, if you like to take and share photos of your 993, which hosting site do you prefer?

I asked the same question about video hosting over on the racing forum, and got a lot of recommendations for Vimeo. It will be intersting to see what you find out for stills.

I use http://www.pbase.com/ppressle/lemons_2008.
I'll have to check out the others. Usual problem is that you can't share higher res stuff.

I put all my pics on Snapfish for years only to find out I can't post them here. They only turn up as a red "X". Arghhh. I switched to Photobucket and I can use that service here, as well as the Rennlist Gallery will show the pics when I post them here.
Good luck,

It's because of Rennlist that I was forced to learn about this subject.
The RL photo server I used was always low-res, & the photos small. That always struck me as unfortunate. For convenience's sake, I used RL anyway. Then my pictures starting disappearing from their server & being a real hassle in other ways. I think I reached the limit in # of pix, but their webpages didn't behave logically when I tried to rectify. By necessity, I researched options on other sites.
(Unfortunate, especially for a site I pay $ to be a member on.)
When I saw Allill's delicious & high-resolution photos in his WIDEBODY 993 S CAB thread, I looked into what he uses: imageshack.us.
I was surprised to find you don't even need to create an account with them. They host virtually anything, even large files. All you need to do is save the hyperlink. Easy!
Now I have some photos on my own 993 Speedster thread that I sometimes wonder if a few are too large / hi-res.
The bottom shot's the low-res version of Butzi (F.A. Porsche)'s family 993 Speedster. I felt guilty about posting the original high-res file.
Nice to have that option.

+1 for smugmug. I investigated this topic for other purposes and settled on them and have been very, very pleased (but haven't investigated how well they work with RL).

I went with Smugmug, because it has an association with the BMW Motorcycle Owners of America, of which I am a member. It works well with Rennlist, and is reasonable easy to use.

One that isn't well known is Panoramio.com It's got no real size limit and there are some tricks to it. What I like about it is the ability to plot in Lat/Long the location of each photo. (Panoramio parses out the geographic data from the EXIF file residing within the image data file.) While they won't ever allow personalized shots to be shared with Google Earth, you can still upload and then later use the URL for the image in other areas. Here's an example:

Embedded within a posting: Simply put "[img] around the URL.
Like this : ""
