Default Fuel Filler Neck part # Question

I tightened all the clamps to the hoses on the fuel filler neck last fall and the fuel smell in the trunk went away for several months.

The smell is back and I'm not going to tighten the clamps any tighter.

I will start to try and correct this problem by replacing the filler neck first.

My Question is which part should I go with? My 993 is a very early 1995 model. The two replacement parts that have been recommended to me are: #964-201-043-07 for a 964 or #993-201-043-00 for a 993.
It would seem obvious that the 993 part is the one, but the 964 part has been recommended because Porsche has redesigned the filler neck several times in order to make it less likely to leak fumes into the trunk area.

Any suggestions or experience with this delima?

I'm not saying that it isn't the filler neck but there are a bunch of other possibilities b4 you start ordering parts. Have you checked the expansion tank and associated lines and clamps? Take a look at the exploded view diagrams on the Porsche site https://techinfo.porsche.com/techinfo/index.jsp or dC Automotive. http://dcauto.gotdns.com/?mode=year&...1998&model=993

I had the same problem until two months ago and it was easily fixed, assuming your problem is the same that I had. I was over at MikeJ's and he replaced a clamp going to the expansion tank and the problem was solved. Check the following link:

95C4VanIsle,

Yes, that was my post and it worked for several months, but the fuel smell is back and I want to start with one fix at a time and try and get this problem solved.
So, I am going to try the new fuel filler neck first and new clamps and see if that works. If that does not work, I will replace the fuel expansion tank and the hoses and clamps associated with it. Then....?

I would like to know if there is a difference in the two parts mentioned above and if there is someone out there who has replaced the filler neck with success on their 993.

NC TRACKRAT, Nice car!!!

Van,
Can you tell me specifically which clamp he replaced? Was it the one on top of the expansion tank and did he replace it with the same clamp or a different kind?

Thanks!
