Default MY '02 Wheels

Okay, I've decided, my favorite wheels, thus far, are what you guys call the "MY '02", which I'm imagining means something like "mid-year 2002". So where's the best place one would go to obtain a set of these wheels that would fit a 993 narrow body?

I believe "MY" refers to model year. Many would agree with you that they are one of the best wheels for the narrow body 993's. (Myself included)

You just have to keep checking the classified section of this site and others, as well as, ebay and Craiglist. Good Luck.

keep in mind, there are 2 different sets, there is a set that was made for the Boxster and a set made for the 996, the widths and offsets are slightly different. I beleive either set will fit on a NB993.

and yes, they are one of the nicer sets of wheels for a 993

I have the 996 version.

I got mine from this site in the 996 section as these wheels were made for the 996 originally.

God I love these wheels, anyone know the difference between the 996 and boxster models, as to what "fits better"?

996 fits better. To my knowledge Boxster wheels have a 7.5" wide in the front where 996 are 8".

An Italian company called MIM makes a high-quality reproduction. I found my set through a CA wheel seller on Ebay. I've had them for a couple of years and am very happy with them.

For pure street use, the Italian replicas are fine, sure they weigh a bit more, but if you are not trackig the car, it is doubtful you will really notice the difference.
If you are patient however, used 996 MY02s periodically come up for sale, and they can be about the same as a set of new Italian replicas. If you are in a hurry, there are two choices, expensive OEM to the tune of ~$3K for a set, or $1.xK for the Italian Replicas.

I was in no rush, and waited until a local set came up, I traded my CupIIs with tires and $800 for a set of MY02s with Pilot Sports. traded the caps with the wheels, and got a better set in the exchange.

BTW OEM MY02s are made by BBS.

In addition to this site, you might also check Pelican and 6speedonline. I got mine from a place called nitrous garage, www.nitrousgarage.com, 909-869-5681, Greg was great to deal with.

Boxster MY02 are:
18x7.5 ET50 (i think)
18x9 ET52
made by Borbet

These may rub on lowered cars without rolled fenders and may limit rear tire width to 265 - your results may vary.

996 MY02 are:
18x8 ET50
18x10 ET65
made by BBS

Better fit and actually seem to be more widely available.

The MY02 996 5 spokes made by BBS are a great choice, very light and they fit like the oem Speedlines

the widths and o/s are extremely important on a lowered car
Speedlines 8ET 52 & 10 ET65 x18, Street

MY02 8ET50 & 10ET65 x18, track

With a spacer on the rear (none needed on the fronts), MY02's also will work on a WB:

That's a pretty good buy. Not so sure Hankook tires are factory. :-)
Another set in the tire and wheel forum.
New from Sunset you are around $625 ea. and that's without tires.

Be patient and best of luck,
Neil

Otherwise, keep looking in CL, ebay, and PCA classifieds. They come around fairly regularly.
