Just picked up a pair of recaro speedsters. Was originally going for pole positions but a nice pair of speedsters popped up for sale locally at a great price. Not as much weight savings but still something to add to the list.

I cannot understand these figures. I had my car corner balanced a few weeks ago and if you add up the four corners, it comes in at nearly 3100 lbs with a half tank of fuel!
I have
  • no rear seats
  • recaro pole positions fronts (only 1 on a slider)
  • no airbags
  • Electric P/S
  • no SAI
  • no cruise control
  • no AC
  • no radio,
  • RS door cards
  • no lower dash
  • RS parts up the wazoo
  • no spare tire/jack
  • Moton Motorsports dampeners
  • lightweight battery, etc...

According to these other posts, I should be in the 2500/2600 lbs range! Is there a 600 lb. lead plate somewhere that we missed?

Your figure has to be off. When were the scales last calibrated? The weight your talking about is nearly the OEM figure as noted in their booklets. With the stuff removed, yes, you should be in the 2700 range.

The Porsche 993 RS Basic (no info on the RS CS) "Service Information Technik for 911 Carrera RS":
The curb weight in accordance wih DIN 70020 says:
front: 495kg / 1091 lbs
rear: 775 kg / 1708 lbs
Total: 1270 kg / 2800 lbs

I have seen info of:
RS CS 2690 lbs
1997 993 Cup RSR 2425 lbs

Hard to belive that your car is nearly 3100 lbs. More like 2700-2800 lbs. Or du you have gold in it like Goldfinger

It won't be that light, but it should be in the 2,900 range. Were YOU in the car?

C4S with 1/3 tank of fuel - 3085 lbs. Lighter than I thought.

This is with radio/CD changer delete (but I have not removed the super heavy speaker drivers yet).
RS clutch/Lightweight flywheel
Fister III
KW V3
HRE R101 (~16lb per wheel ballpark).

Speakers probably add up to an easy 20 lbs I’d bet. I’d love to get some lightweight seats in there and maybe a lithium battery. After that, it would get much harder unless I did a RWD conversion.

As you mostly know already Lithium Batteries can really get massive weight off in with a simple replacement of the Battery And depending on your use of the Car Antigravity Batteries has anything from about 6 lbs for Track/Race applications that are very compact but have sufficient Amp Hours for Track and some daily driving, to batteries that are from 12 lbs to 16 lbs that offer more Amp Hours in a drop- in OEM fit and have and WIRELESS built in Jump Starting like the Video below shows. We do not recommend anything less than 15 actual Amp Hours for a Car that see any street duty, that is the bare minimum, though some try smaller, it's just not worth it the hassle. The best is a minimum of 24Ah for a Street Performance Cars, with the sweet spot being about 30Ah to 40Ah for all duty batteries that can handle even higher levels of parasitic drains. The Cranking Amp are not the issue even a tiny lithium batttery can flip any Porsche... but you need the extra capacity for emergencies, and not having to leave it on a charger.

If they did the corner weight right, they put the driver's weight on his seat.
Now i have no ideas about your size ...

Thanks for the replies....So to satisfy everyone's curiosity - I'm a tall and skinny body type....er, I mean "lean" and muscular....I am not the 600 lb. discrepancy!
Whereas I know one would normally place the driver in the car when corner balancing, I decided against it since for the next year or so I'll have an instructor with me at my track events.....I figure we'll cancel each other out!
I'll phone the shop and ask them if they have had their scales calibrated recently....

now the 993 offers such a great driving pleasure, but on the other side so much less comfort without A/C and heating system.

The point very important to me has always been that every single thing I've done had to be totally reversable.

maybe there could be the possibility of a 10kgs more weight reduction by using a lithium battery, but then I am not going to touch the glasses or the electric windows

As a point of reference, my old D class/G class PCA car weighed around 2900 lbs (2914 lbs) with about a 1/4 tank of gas, Recaro Pro Racer HANS seat, Recaro Pole Position seat, Fabspeed Supercup mufflers, DACH X cat bypass, no AC compressor or lines, Piper Motorsports full cage, no interior, hollowed-out doors, Momo Mod .07 steering wheel, no rear spoiler (3.8 RS wing), RS front splitters and Odyssey 925 battery. I also had the spare tire and Cool Shirt cooler up front.

I had to add 150 lbs of ballast to bring the weight back up to the 3064 lbs of the stock car. The car was weighed on a regular basis on PCA's scales at various races.

Bringing this back to the top as I just weighed my car this weekend at 2840 at 1/8 tank of fuel.
Setup:
Sunroof delete-fill in panel, not over lay
Rear seat delete & RS carpet kit
Headliner, Dynamat on roof and rear seat areas
Stock visors
Das Roll bar
Cobra Nogaro buckets
Harnesses-no seat belts
Both air bags and lower dash deleted
930 CS steering wheel
Radio and speakers delete
Rennline Fire ext and mount
RS door cards
Stock center console, alum shifter **** & Ebrake handle
Heavy *** OEM Speedlines-I use stock 17" cups at the track so those s/b lighter
Big Red Turbo brakes and rotors
Nothing in frunk except strut bar.
Fabspeed headers and cat delete Xpipe-no heat exchangers
Working AC
Deleted bumperettes and small fog lights w/ scoops
Lightweight 3.8 one piece tail/decklid, RS skirts and front spoilers.
Vinyl wrap-not sure what that would weigh?
