Default Debris on oil drain plug

So I am doing my first DIY oil change and I pulled the case oil drain plug to reveal the below. Its a very small piece of metal, very tiny, smaller than a golf ball dimple. I was wondering if this is normal and if not what I should do next. I cut open the tank filter and could not find any debris but will do the same with the smaller filter. In the mean time if anyone has seen this before or has any advice please let me know. Thanks!

Regards,

Kevin

Never a good sign. Post more information on your car i.e. miles, MY, etc.

It's a 1996 C2 with 60K. I cut open both filters and didn't see any other metallic pieces. That was really the only piece that I could find. The car doesn't blow through oil by any means.

It would make me nervous, but I wouldn't go tear the engine down or anything at this point. I'd run a compression test and just keep an eye on things if that looks good. It could be something that was always in your engine and just worked its way down, could have been introduced during an oil change in a filter or something, it's just hard to say based on the pictures. Since it's your first DIY oil change, it might be something as simple as the last guy had the plug in a catch pan that had some metal in it and it picked up a little piece.

As its magnetic it is not part of a rod or main bearing so it may not be bad news ie signs of an imminent failure. However, it is not good news either.

You are fine. Don't worry about it. If it were a problem there would have been much more debris.

Look at this thread:

I've saved the piece and when I bring my car to EPE for the alignment I will be sure to mention it and have them to a compression test if needed. As that is the only piece I found (on the plug or in the filters) I think I will be ok for the time being. Maybe Steve W. will chime in at some point and tell me it will all be ok!
