The last time Porsche was on the ropes a car called 993 came along
Yeah except that the guy who engineered that turnaround now runs Aston Martin.

Porsche needs VW in order to be able to meet the EU carbon restrictions and the US CAFE standards. Only by averaging in VW's compact and sub compact results can Porsche hope to be able to sell its cars in the US or the EU. Of course we can always have the three cylinder 30 hp 911 diesel or the electric hybrid but then who wants that. Either way we may be seeing the end of a great company. So Sad. I do hope the families and unions wake up and play nice.

Wow, that's crazy news! Why didn't they try to manage their profits better instead of trying to buy out VW? Totally understand them needing to merge for laws/economy/emissions standards etc. But was the take over plan needed for them to have better control over the company interests?

As much as I like to see paybacks on stupid decisions... I don't want to see this beloved car company go down the drains! They still make some kick *** products, at least in the GT3/GT2 versions And besides, we still need parts!!

The players ...

Porsche CEO Wendelin Wiedeking: The brakes have been applied to a man widely considered to be a turbo capitalist.

Porsche co-owner Ferdinand Piech (right) and his wife Ursula at a meeting of Volkswagen Golf GTI enthusiasts in Austria in May: VW has good reasons not to let Porsche slip into bankruptcy.

Wiedking looks like he's watching his CEO title fly away... side by side with the company's cash.

Dang. With all that money, who dresses Ursula, Stevie Wonder?
