You haven't described anyone. Least of all me. Just like you, I celebrate 'em all. I just don't like getting caught in the cross-fire of a discussion that's gone sideways through no fault of my own.

My '02 996 is my driver. I also have an '04 996 GT3 and an '07 997 RS. I can tell you it's not just 996 owners. It's money over the car as a passion. I'll bet there were 993 owners who were "out-of-touch" as well. As the cars get older, the money goes somewhere else.

This thread sounds more like a blowhard session from the U.S. Congress than anything else. Look, we all belong to the same fraternity: Porsche brothers (and sisters).

Porsche did what they had to do when they went from air-cooled to water. Who cares. True, things changed. They are not the same company they used to be. Our world is not the same as it used to be, either.

Instead of bickering and making pot-shots about one another, it'd be nice if we could celebrate all we have in common.

Wouldn't that be a great thread?

Default Just let it go.

Guys, drop the 996 bashing. 10 years is enough of this back and forth stuff. If you don't want one don't buy one, but there's no need to bash another member's car.

This negative discussion got old a long time ago.

And no, I don't own one.

100% agree. BTW my car was just like yours except Midnight Blue. What a pretty car when cleaned up!

All I have to say about this is....dude....if that's your car in your avatar...you MUST put some pictures on here...just from that rear shot alone, I can tell you I want one of those...in green will be fine thank you.

- he asked me what a 993 C4S was
- I tell him it was the last of the air cooled 911s
- I tell him he has a 996 - he is befuddled (I started to explain the numbers but he is uninterested)
- he tells me his Porsch is air cooled too - I don't argue
- I ask if he has ever heard of rennlist or reutterwerk - NO
- I ask if his "Porsch" is a C2 or C4 - he asks what's that
- Based on all of the above, I ask if his car is manual or TIP, he says 5 speed, but asks me what a TIP is - I tell him I believe it is a 6 speed.

He is just one 996 owner, but I am sure Porsche wouldn't be very proud.
You should probably go into business with this guy. He seems much more focused on earning a living than automotive trivia.

That depends on how much of his money Porsche has.
