Wow, this has been more fun and just as disturbing as "Jon & Kate Plus 8" on The Learning Channel

Thanks for the anger and the laughs tonight as I read through the pages. Ignorance and self importance runs rampant in this thread - it's sad, really.

I appreciate the 996 and 997 owner and their cars and try not to say anything negative about them. If I want to say something negative about a car, it would be one that's truly inferior... not a Porche! There were many at the NY Auto show that I thought were lame. The Porsches were all amazing to me (as well as the cute ladies that manned the Porsche area).

I llike to own a 996 one day as my DD.
If my calculation is right, I can buy 996 & a boxster for price of my 993...
NOT! I'm keeping it forever!!!

It's common to see them for sale with 150K + on the ODO. I think Tony paid close to $13K for his but his already had the wheels. All in all I'm into mine for well under $20K and it will eventually become my DD when my current lease is up. And oh yeah... all the MBZ forums BLOW.....
ah..to add to the above...Mine is a 2000 sport model, Tip transmission, roof antennae, and One of 22 in the US of A.. Rear seats fold, and has ski bypass, full leather, heated front seats, side air bags..etc..

As far as mods go, the cheapest HP bang is to swap the 4.4 for the 5.5 motor. These can be had for about 2500+. It's a straight swap and when all is said and done you be at easily of 400 hp in a match box. Add a SC on to the 5.5t, and you over 500hp me thinks or close to it...And still can get 25 mpg at 74mph...

Cactus, what you REALLY need is a Fiat 500...

air cooled, rear engine... cool little car! I forgot... good ol' Italian reliability.

JD can get some imported if we get a group buy going

I just bought another little car so it will be a little while for me to be ready but eventually I will have one. One way or another.

You can handle all the work with your eyes closed. Oil changes - 10 mins...brakes...simple...plugs.piece of cake....transmission flush..simple...very easy car to work on!!

If it's for the wife you may want to consider the E55. The C43 is more of a drivers car, very pcar gocart like in a lot of ways....hmmm.. I should ask my wife which one she prefers. A lil comparison... http://www.mbworld.org/forums/c36-am...ork-today.html

...so, then if my 996 is really a Toyota, then my air cooled 911 is really a Volkswagen. Right?

I love them all, even the front engined ones. Take a look at my Avatar for my current fleet. There's an old school 911 in there, along with the 996 and the Cayman.

I've never been able to understand the hate that various factions within the Porsche community dish out to each other.

The folks at work actually refer to my p-car as a volkswagon and I I kind of like it.

That's funny....I get the same thing from my guys at work. Like you, I kinda like it.... Although, ONLY if they are referring to the old air-cooled Volkswagons....otherwise, I don't' really like it...
