Mike,
Very inspiring! I look forward to doing this in 10 years or so.

BTW, I presume paint booths have some sort of down-draft ventilation system (since they always seem devoid of overspray)?

Default RL rivi cab mascot!

Mike-- Let me know when you're on the nation-wide Rivi Blue cab tour! Need to know the dates so I don't miss you again.

She'll definitely be in demand. Hmmm. RL ever had a mascot? Anyone opposed to her? ... ... Vote's in: We have a smurfy new mascot!

Andreas,

Yes they do. They also use a HVLP (High Velocity Low Pressure) spray gun. When I was in the booth there is a grate that runs the length of the floor the air is pulled down through the grates and passes through filters. It is amazing when he was spraying the car that the paint only seemed to hit the car an no where else. The filters were as blue as the car though. All makes for a better job.

Mike,

I know that you know the guys at your paint shop, but do you have any idea of how much a spray job like that would cost to a 3rd party?

Thanks!

Mike -

I miss your threads like this. It is awesome. A few days ago I searched for other RIVI BLUE threads--they are always a treat.

Fun to watch and can't wait to see the final product.

I would venture a guess at about 6-8K. This is a guess only. Taking the car apart is a huge undertaking as well as putting it back together. It also depends on how much body work is needed the more time spent getting the car ready for paint the more $$$$$$$. The actual painting of the car is fast, it's all the prep work and finish work that's expensive. I know the gallon of paint I bought was right at $400.00.

UPS being the tightest ship in the shipping busines misloaded the wheels and they are delayed a day. According to the computer I will get them this evening. Glad we insured them. My UPS driver is great just not the company he works for.

Thanks David. I searched high and low for wheels like yours. They look great.

What's up there stranger. Glad to see you here again. See we have fun over here, maybe even more fun than the 997 guys. Keep tuned the car is moving along at a fast pace so pics will be coming more often.

Mike, HVLP = High Volume Low Pressure, low pressure meaning air pressure at the gun is 10 psi or less. very nice work. How long to put it back together after your sanding etc is done?

I say the car will be on the road in 2 weeks from me getting it back. I still have the carpet kit to put in, the stereo to install and the rest of the parts to put on. This is the fun part putting it back together. Thanks for the clarification on the spary gun. I must have heard my guy wrong. Like I said I was just the sanding jockey in the process. I've sprayed parts before, but never a car. I will leave that to the pros.

Are you going to sound deaden (I know it's a cab, but I'm still asking), THEN run the RCAs/ power/ speaker wires THEN install the carpet? Please document these steps as well as all the other work you've done on all the other cars!

RKB:

No sound deadening material. You are right because it's a cab. I will document the work and post pics.

Since the project is really coming together now, checking this thread is part of my daily routine. Well, maybe twice daily. I think us "watchers" are almost as excited as you probably are Mike. Much easier just clicking too, very little physical effort or money spent! Post em when you got em! (Pics that is)

Tim:

The pics should be really starting to flow here because I will be getting the car back on Friday.
