I'm on the search again, but due to the recession I am going at it differently. I am about to unload a 69 Camaro SS that I am in to for very little which I will try to attach a photo of. I have been offered a 63 Vette Stingray Convertible for $30k that I may bite at, but neither of these are what I want. So I hope to find a 993 owner that needs to dump the way I am finding these other collectibles.

I can get 3 cars from seller in trouble, 68 RS Camaro all matching numbers, 63 Stingray Convert fuel inj, and a 62 Corvette Split Window (not pictured), for $70k. I am doing my due diligence.

Well as long as you're performing your due diligence, there's no such thing as a '62 split window. The split window coupe was only produced in 1963. I owned a really nice one for a number of years.

I know, I watch values all the time, I have noticed you can get alot of 997's for $45k. S models around $50-$55k, they are quickly closing in on 993 4S prices. There are a few 993's right now at $17,500 with high miles 150k+. I have also noticed many 993 cars that have been for sale for up to a year, one that comes to mind is a green tiptronic cab that is in Seattle or Oregon(?). I had to let my last 993 go cheap in order to free up cash to invest in other assets. I have $12k into that SS Camaro and hope to have it sold for $25k within 2 weeks. 993's will no doubt be collector cars, I just hope to get one a little cheaper than current prices, that Corvette looks like a better deal to me than $30k on a 993.

Another cheap 997, if these go the way of 996 prices, I will have to have one as a daily driver.

While 993 prices have softened, they are unrelated to the water-cooled world. They do their own thing.

We are ALL just speculating, but this seems unlikely to me. While there clearly is a difference between air and water cooled cars, particularly to a portion of the market, it's not like the difference between a BMW 7 series and a minivan. For that example, there's essentially no cross-influence of prices. To argue that 997s and 993s are so different that the prices of one won't influence the other? No offense, but that seems crazy to me. When 10 year old 997s are selling for $25,000, I have to think there will be an effect... at least until the 993s start to wear a "vintage" halo.

Agree, that would be a badass ride for $30,000.

Alas, with the prodigious numbers of not only 997's, but 986's, 987's, and 996's (oh, and Caymans and Cayennes as well), Porsche's exclusivity is being diluted, despite their continued mechanical and design superiority. One remaining refuge maintaining the cachet, then, is in the older, more limited run cars such as our 993's.

Sad to say that all colletible cars are taking a HUGE hit these days. if you know anything about vettes....that 63 convertible with sidepipes and rallye wheels is a steal at 30k. two years ago that car if a number matching original car was edging up to 100k, and the 67 big blocks well north of that. If that car is a good as it seems and is a number matching car, that price bodes poorly for all car collectors. 67's were in the rarified 200k territory in 2007, now i have to assume much less. just my two cents
