Default Hints of buying a 993

Hi all,

I live in Denver, Colorado and I am considering buying a 1996-1998 993 Cabrio. I have never owned a Porsche but growing up my father had a 1985 911 and I loved it. I am looking for a low mileage vehicle (0-50,000 miles). My question, What are some of the main differences between the 96, 97, and 98. Any problems with the particular years or positives about one over another? I enjoy working on vehicles and would like to get involved with doing some of my own work. Just want to pick the best year of vehicle. Any advice is appreciated.

There's tons of good info on the net and in the library. Your questions require lots of answers. Here's a start: http://www.p-car.com/

Go from there and you'll connect to lots of info. Also there are good books out there (Streather's "993 Essential Companion" as an example.)

I think we all spent a lot of time researching before getting into it; I know I sure did.

Once you get your questions refined and specific, RL is a great forum and resource.

imho, bottom line is that any of those years are good years IF the car's been maintained properly. I think that's the key.

Also use the search engine here......

I'm curious... did you already rule out the 95 model year?

timing is great ,with current economic malaise you should be able to pick up a nice example from about $ 28,000 to $ 35,000.........

unless you plan on it being a garage queen no real example of a real low mile car in my mind.....obviously a 98 being the last model year of the 993 will be worth more just be sre you get a pre purchase inspection...great cars and ots of fun, have had mine for almost 10 years and track it about 5 to 7 times a year

good luck with all of the examples for sale yu should be able t find a nice sample

Don't just dismiss the '95s. I'm glad I have a '95 with it's lack of check engine light (CEL) issues because it's OBD I (I'm in smog crazy CA) and the lack of the drive block immobilizer thing and it's problems.

Just find a nice one with records and the right history, get a good detailed PPI done and you should be golden. It is definately a buyers market right now AND the hunt is all part of the ownership experience. Good Luck

Go to advanced search. Enter "immobilizer". Search 993 thread. There wil be lots of posts regarding immobilizer issues. I have a 1995 with the immobilizer and have not had any issues with mine. In fact, I love my 95.

Check out www.pcarworkshop.com as well, it has more information than p-car.com.

Cheers,
