Default My alternator belt blows more often than a hooker at a Nevada cathouse...

Third time in 18 months. Probably improper tension, and yes I have the pulley TSB upgrade. All the lights that come on when it goes sure look pretty though.

Ah, good times.

It may help to use the genuine Porsche part (the one with Porsche printed on the belt), if you aren't already doing so. Some of the aftermarket ones may be just a bit off in width or pitch.

Check the sheaves of the fan pulley halves for symmetry, as well as the alternator pulley update ( and alternator shaft itself) .... if either belt fails, it beats the crap out of the other belt and can bend whatever pulley parts that get in the way .... setting up for a future failure with the new belts.
My PO had these issues, and that was a primary reason why we crossed paths: his permanent fix was selling me the car .... and mine was the RS hub

Also, slightly loose is far better than drum tight.

I'm referring to the belts.

You want it the other way around at the truck stop.

+1 on the Porsche belts - they are 1 or 1.5 mm wider than the ones you'll get from the auto parts place. Do you know how much tension you're running? The Crikit took from Napa is a decent way to estimate if you are not good at testing by deflection.

I also had a problem when I went to the porsche belts. Because they are wider, I needed to buy more shims (car did not have enough). I did blow one belt in the manner you had - at 6800 rpm - you're right about the pretty dashlights, I felt like I was in a fighter jet going down.
