Had my cab, top down, up at the park today. I could hear a couple of 13-14 year old boys slobbering nearby. One kid: Wow, check out that cool car, what is it? Other kid (cocky): man, that's a convertible Cayman. Made my day.

Next Generation..... I'm not too sure about the current gen!
We were in the Speedster stopped at a light and a 928 pulled up next to us and the guy said "cute car...what is it?"

That reminds me of last year, a few days after I bought my 997 when I was in the post office parking lot and a kid probably about 12 years old jumped out of the back of his mother's minivan and started taking pictures of my car with his cellphone camera.

My son was waiting in my parked car while I was in the post office. As we drove off he pointed out two teens who had walked past the car and told me that one had knowing said to the other 'That's one Bad A** M***** F****** ride.'

This tread makes me lol.

I remember an instance where I was at a red light. A kid in a modded wrx was making a left turn in the cross traffic. He literally slowed to a crawl and got his camera phone out to snap pictures of my car while he made that left turn. Hilarious. Future paparazzi. lol.

My father and I went for an early Sunday morning fun run (me in my 89 C4, he in his 68 912) and stopped at a popular destination for apples, fresh bread and lunch. We had not got 10 steps away from the cars when nearly a dozen people came up and asked if they could take pictures of the cars.

It was slightly comical as we watched them take turns posing next to the cars while their friends took photos. It was like they had never seen Porsches in person before.

The kids around here don't pay much attention to 'old cars.' They're pretty savvy

I was at my son's soccer practice last week and a group of teens gathered around my 97 and were checking it out for about 5 minutes. It actually made me kind of nervous, so I went over to make sure nothing funny was going on. I talked with them for a while, they were just some young car nuts, mostly into Hondas and didn't really know much about Porsches. They were suprised when I told them is was 12 years old it wasn't very fast compared to many of the modern imports. Nice kids, maybe I planted a seed for some future Porsche owners.

The cashier at a local gas station asked if it was a new Ferrari. I didn't know what to say at first

I was at a local coffee house an a young boy came up to me with his Mother and said, "Will you give me that car?" I explained to him that if he worked hard in school and obeyed his Mom he could get get one for himself. His Mother agreed with me. The boy looked at me again and said, "Will you give me that car?" All I could do is laugh. He never quit looking at the car.

Amazing what "legitimacy" driving up in these cars can convey to the great unwashed. It never fails to impress would-be business partners, giving credence to the "fake it 'til you make it" thesis.

Great thread. Thanks for reminding me: some of my favorite Porsche memories involve the incredibly pure enthusiasm of youngsters. Often the unique, graceful lines of Porsches - especially 993s & 356s - communicate through generations at places & situations I could never predict.

We've all had hearfelt compliments from peers & older, but I always cherish the unpolished, raw emotion of kiddos.

[Related, recent thread about similarly-positive reactions: 993 and Attention!]

I had a good one... Pulled into a good spot at a resturant next to a brand new Z06... A couple of high school kids were drooling all over both of them, and said they'd love to see these two *have a go of it* at a stop light... They were quite disappointed with I noted that the Corvette had 500hp and mine had just over half of that and was nearly 12 years older... Something to be said for classic styling... and swoopy lines....

That shot of the Benz was right in front of Kate Matellini! Those kids are a crazy combination of stalkers and paparazzi. Probably like their parents.

I did see my first-ever CGT pull away on Beverly, ironically walking out from a store with books on automotive advertising!:

I had to call my car crazy buddy to ask him WTF was this "Porsche that looked and sounded like a Ferrari" (which was bad ***!)

BTW- I only get to Beverly Hills about once per year. It's not my style...at all. I just needed to get to that store.
