Good to know you weighed yours. For you cab owners a RSD is less weight than the rear seat assembly. I am not sure what the rear seats asembly weighs, but it is more than the 22.5 pounds of the RSD I can asssure you, that metal mounting bracket is very heavy in a cab.

Mike,

Yeah, I did weight it. I also realized that it is for a cab and not a coupe! I will have to do some extra work to get a tighter fit however it shouldn't be hard starting with the cab profile as its not that far off.

I love the irony. The rear seat was one of the top requirements when made the transition from sport sedan to sports car, as I need some place to leave my 7 year old son (I tried duct taping him to the shelving in the garage but my wife got mad at me).

Gentlemen,
I curiously called Sunset regarding the cost for a new one, only $2186.
I guess I'll keep looking, too.

Does anyone feel confident in fabricating one for a possible group buy?

How about asking a P-car restoration shop (there's a well-known one down in Oceanside CA; I don't recall the name)? If enough people really want one, I imagine a shop might cobble some decent kind of RSD together....(?) Color choices could be a stumbling block, I'd guess; could get too pricey with choices(?)

yeah, this would be a great project for someone with the time and the necessary (basic) woodworking skills.
(I have one but not the other. Need more time!)

The only hard part is the doors and hardware for the doors. Duplicating them would be tough since the face is curved. Guess you could do something different... didn't Mike (arena993) do this?
The rest, including the luggage bars, is pretty straightforward.
Standard carpet colors can be sourced pretty easily.

hmmm.....

There's got to be an idle factory some where north of Hong Kong that can do some nice injection molding of the plastic parts.

Mark:

All I did was tear one down, recovered with new carpet and dyed the doors and center piece. I did disassemble the doors when I dyed them.

Gents,

I was going to hold off on this but you guys are getting too anxious. I am currently developing a rear seat delete that is very close to factory look. I am working on a prototype and will have some test units out the beg. of this summer (shooting for June). I am planning on making both standard and lightweight units available. If you are interested send me a PM with your email and I will make sure to pass along any updates and notify you when production units are available.

FWIW: In the back of my mind I've been carrying the thought that a "perfect" RSD for a Cab would have a hinged top entry with a remote-activated lock (in fact, hood, glove box, center console and RSD all with the same locking mechanism). The front-facing doors are sorta awkward, and it would be nice to stow a jacket easily in the RSD, instead of having to open the hood to do so. If I weren't so moded-out, it would be an interesting project - I see the lid hinged on the front side of the top.

Cactus, I don't know what exactly you are looking for regarding an RSD, but if you are semi-handy and have some tools, you can make your own for around $150.00 includng carpet.
Here is a link to the one I built for my 87 911 a couple of years ago.

http://http://forums.pelicanparts.co...=331520&page=5

Start on page 5,6,7,10,12 and 15 for photos etc.
Good luck!
