OT: Visiting Japan. Car musuems or districts?
Hey guys,
Will be visiting Japan next week for 2 weeks and was wondering if anyone recommends any must see spots, especially car museums/districts? Will be in Tokyo, Kyoto, Hokkaido, and probably some other areas outside of Tokyo. I remember reading there is a huge Ferrari musuem (private-owner I think) somewhere?
Any advice and/or suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks!

In Tokyo - take the train to Odaiba. It's a man made city and there is lots to do there - for kids and adults. There is a great shopping centre called Venus Fort. Girls love this place. There is a car museum in there and also a Toyota show room. Wicked place to visit and it's free. Heaps of other things to do as well. Check out the pet store in Venus Fort - you can buy monkeys there if you fancy.
Do the Sony Building in Ginza. All the latest Sony stuff on display. BMW show room use to be in the same building. Sony building is free as well.
Check out Akihabara for electronics - try one of the big stores like Yodabashi Akiba or Bic Camera. Around 8 floors of electronics.
Early in the morning - around 6am - go to the fish market - Tsukiji fish market - you'll be amazed - have sashmi breakfast there as well - but be prepared for queues.
Visit Roppongi Hills - city tower view - shopping centre - beautiful area.
Check out the Tokyo museums - also lovely area - beautiful trees.
Check out the usual places - Harjuku, Ginza, Shinjuk, Roppongi, Shibuya.
Tokyo auto show is on in October this year - not on every year - little weird. Go if you can.
Man - so much to do. Just eat as much as you can and do some shopping and get ready for a culture shock and communication problems. Enlgish will only get your so far in Japan. Try the underground train system if you want to get confused.
For a day trip while in Tokyo or a short get away - I recommend Hakone. Start early - take the romance car (nothing to do with romance) but it will get you there quicker - take all the types of transport - see amazing landscape - see hot springs - wonderful view of mount Fuji - take a pirate ship and see an amazing lake. Highly recommended - I did it on my last visit.
Give yourself a good 3 hours travel time from city to airport. Take the bus shuttle if you can.
1000 yen is good denomination to carry around.
Get conciege to write down in Japanese the places you want to go to show taxi man. Black taxi more expensive than other taxi - but does the same thing.
I could go on - but have a wonderful time.

Tokyo Concours...
Now on-going at the top of Mori Tower in Roppongi Hills. Same structure as Mori Art Museum and City View. So you get the best views of Tokyo from the 52nd floor, and the cars are there as well. Mostly vintage cars, and a special section of Ferraris.
I think it ends April 12.

There's a free observation floor atop the Government Building in Shinjuku (Tokyo). It's the tall twin towers building; you cant miss it. There's also a nice Audi Showroom near Harajuku.

Make sure you take the Shinkansen (bullet train to Kyoto). Get a tour bus which will take you to various places in Kyoto - go to Kiyomizu Dera (temple)- great sightseeing point. If you can go to Nara more temples and relics to see - again take the tour bus.
Haygeebaby has got most of Tokyo covered - go to Sensouji in Asakusa (world famous shrine). Make sure you go up the Tokyo tower - if you have stamina, walk up to the top - you will be given a medal. If you have children, Ueno Zoo is a great place to go - they have the Giant Panda. If you go during the summer, you may be able to see the fireworks display over the Edo River which is absolutely fantastic.
Too many things to do and a fortnight will just fly by.

Just got to Tokyo a few hrs ago. And I thought NYC streets were narrow...wow! MBs and BMWs are a dime a dozen here (at least in Shibuya) and already saw an orange Gallardo. Porsches...only 1 Boxster so far.
I am pretty surprised to see so many Americans here. Hoping to check out Yoyogi Park, Harajuku District, and the Concours D'Elegance at the Mori Center as 'Carlos 993' suggested today.
