Angry Bad News for HID XENON Conversion Lights in Florida!

I just called Vertex and I was informed that the Department of Transportation
has now deemed the HID Aftermarket Lights Illegal!!!!
Sellers had their inventory checked and removed.
On that note, what make HID lights are currently the best to get?
and where can I get some? I need an Ebay name or store please.
4300-5000K color temp. Thanks

I might go with Litronics one of these days. But $2500+ is fairly steep (for me right now.) btw, the kits are technically illegal in CA, too. I think they are illegal in all the USA since none that I know of are DOT approved.

fwiw, I got mine here: http://www.mobilehid.com/

I only went with them because of their rep on other car forums. And mainly because he is a real person with a physical address and a real phone number. Sure enough one ballast was bad; but he shipped out a new one with no questions asked and at no cost and in one day (located in Arizona.)

These were outlawed some time ago. The vendors just kept selling them. Sounds like they are now trying to enforce it.

So the reason for making something to help one see better illegal is what?

If not alligned they blind the oncoming cars comes to mind. Also some aftermarket items run hot and can damage the wiring if the balast is incorrect or melt the plastic parts in the area.

Have these people never had a newer Ford pickup come at them? Brightest lights (on low beam) I know of and I drive roughly 2500miles/week. Most of these trucks also have the factory foglights blazing for no other reason than "it looks cool!" FOGLIGHTS are to be used IN THE FOG!!

Another bit of trivia. My 95 has OEM litronics as retrofitted by the first owner, my 97 has elcheapo HID conversion kit. The difference? Other than the $2K+ savings, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!

Well, some people have their aftermarket HIDs aimed so high that they illuminate low-flying aircraft....

I think one reason for the ban is that many people replace their halogen bulbs in a non-projector light assembly. This can make for a dangerously wide and bright light pattern. The stock 993 headlight assembly is a perfect application for an HID bulb since the beam is projected through a directional lens. I was worried about blinding oncoming drivers before I did this mod, but I have my headlights aimed well and have never once had an oncoming driver flash their lights at me.

Don't know why they'd be illegal if they are marked "Off-Road Only" somewhere on the box. There's plenty of stuff out there that's not DOT approved.

You've got a point there. I just looked at the box mine came in and it does say off-road use only. So, the law should protect the vendors. I'm guessing places like Vertex are just paranoid or something; maybe they just need to advertise differently.

But they are illegal to use on the road. But I know there's not one cop in LA would could care about a 4300-6000K head lamp on a Porsche. It's the ricers and truck crowd with their super bright and obnoxious 8000-10000K lamps who get the fix-it tickets.

This is exactly right. On our cars this mod works like the factory setup because the lenses are the same. The yahoos who put HIDs in to replace a low tech reflector halogen bulb are the problem.

Don't waste your money on the OEM kit ... it is 10x the price of aftermarket and produces the identical result.
The 993 was designed for optimum HID lighting with projector headlamps....
