If you read the title of this thread, it is about my POSITIVE experience of using Hergescheimers, not the "outing" of a seller.

Due diligence & PPI work fine for most.
Agreed ...good for you! There are a myriad reasons why I, personally, would cease persuing a purchase that didn't have to do with seller fraud/negligence. Hergies caught something that met with your disapproval ...that's enough. I trust that if it were indeed fraud, you would warn the unsuspecting buyer, as others have done on these boards.

No problem, agree to disagree. I think you are a good person for giving the thumbs up to Herg's...

I still feel poorly for the person who may buy the vehicle and be disappointed. Not everyone goes for a PPI, as unfortunate as that may be...maybe I'm thinking too deeply about what you didn't like and the potential ramifications of a future purchaser.

I really have no ability to manipulate over a computer keyboard, let alone in person. Manipulation certainly wasn't my intention...as a former Porsche dealer tech and service writer and in my current job I always felt information is the best policy when emotion is left behind.

Regardless, I was only trying to help another potential consumer and did not have any intention of offending you or being taken issue with.

Please accept my apologies, I truly had other rennlisters, pelicansters and reutterwerkers in mind when stating there should be more details given.

Other factors to consider are what the buyer is looking for, price asked, and seller disclosure. I remember reading a post by Laura a while back that she really bases her recommendations on what the buyer is looking for and the partcular circumstances surrounding the sale. Obviously if a car is being sold for a premium price, then it's the buyer's right to demand a car that matches the asking price. However, if the car is being sold cheap then it will need some work and finding faults on a PPI should not be a surprise.

I think here we just don't have enough info other than Mark did an inspection, found things that the buyer didn't like, and he walked away from the sale. Still that same car may very well be the perfect car for the next guy even if it wasn't up to the OP's standards, who knows.

FWIW, I went against Laura's advice and bought my car without a PPI. I was confident only of 2 things: the car drove straight and will pass smog. I knew the car needed some work, and I am slowly in the process of getting them done. But for the price I paid for the car, Laura and Mark were nice enough to point out things that the car needed for my safety and enjoyment when I took it in to their shop and "overlook" things that will provoke buyer's remorse or make me feel bad for what I did.... They could have also recommended whole bunch of work to be done, but they didn't and I appreciate that.

Yes, back to the point of the thread. I agree with that Hergesheimer would be a place I feel comfortable recommending to anyone.

Bullseye. I'm out of time tonight (I'm due on the field in 20 minutes), so let's end this by remembering how fortunate we are to have a some great professionals to inspect & look after these wonderful automobiles.

Regards to all ~

I had my PPI done by Hergesheimer and ended up flying out to the West Coast and driving cross country back to Boston. This is my first Porsche but I was completely comfortable after their PPI that my new 993 was good to drive with my wife coast to coast..it turned out to be the trip of a lifetime for us. I'd recommend them highly.
