If I remove the SAI system...

In California, a visual check on the SAI pump is part of the smog inspection process. I guess your results may vary with each different inspection station, but my guy seems to spend forever with a flashlight looking for it.

I'd be willing to bet there isn't a single inspection shop in the Commonwealth of Mass that would know what to look for...or would care either way.

Euro cars have different cats and the cars were designed to meet different emissions requirements. All street legal US spec 911s have had SAI since 1978 when the belt driven pump took 10% of the engine's horsepower. This year SAI has finally been rendered obsolete on the 911 by DFI.
I'm not looking for an argument. I only posted because there had been some statements made about the SAI that are not true. It is an important part of a functioning US spec emissions system. A 993 (including 95s) without SAI will not pass a visual emission system inspection if the tech knows what it should look like or looks it up.
If you know you are reducing the efficiency of the emissions system and choose to do it anyway I disagree with your decision but it's not that big of a deal to me. There are a couple people on this board who have done it and I still respect their contribution to the forum and love their cars. I have even disagreed with my wife a few times and I still love her.

No wish to argue either, just a friendly debate. And I do agree that technically the car could fail the visual check if the smog tech was knowledgeable enough to know what he was looking for and where to look.
I think, however, there is very minimal risk in damaging the cats by removing the SAI. Can't substantiate your claim of the presence of SAI in early Porsches, but I've known many cars (including my 194K mile BMW) who have done just fine w/o SAI.
