I think VW/Audi, Porsche and Infinity are the only companies to use galvanized sheet metal for their cars.
If you find a low mileage 993 ( e.g. 1996 with 35,000 miles), I am sure the car was not driven on salty roads or in much rain........no matter what part of the country it has been used.

Also, my 220 S-class has so much plastic underbody panelling that rust isn't something I worry about. That said, the car is originally from texas.

Well if all East coast cars look like Al's (CornerCarver) then I would say we have it just as good over here. Although yes a car driven all winter and not maintained properly will have issues. But CA has its share of poorly maintained cars too and salt air from coastal areas doesn't help either.
