Default Weltmeister S/S Installed...Can't Get Reverse - UPDATED/VICTORY!!!

So I finally got everything back together and put the car on the ground, started it and can't find reverse Other than that it feels great so far without driving it.

This has been a saga, hasn't it!?

See if you can find Noah's notes on when he instaled. He had something about that, I think.

Is the shift lever absolutely vertical in both left-right and fore-aft planes when in neutral and resting between the 3-4 gate?
If not, the lever will be restricted by interference with the plastic tunnel when slapping it hard left and up for reverse. The original lever in my car was like this ... it would go into reverse at the expense of grinding the leather boot against the tunnel ( and the tunnel simultaneously moving to the left ).

The cure was to trace the contour of a good lever, and use a BFH & vise to retrain the upper portion to lean right ..... a tough move if one happens to be liberal, but success counts!

So everyone start laughing at the rookie now. I had the shift lever reversed like the Porsche PET diagram. The way is is shown in the diagram and the Weltmeister directions is wrong. All back together again and going for a test run now.......Ill be back to to check the carnage soon......

I disagree, I don't think it's a crap product at all. I didn't have one issue installing mine and I've been happy with the performance for the past two years. I've been very happy with the various Weltmeister products I've purchased over the years.

So the shift lever in the picture #1 has to face the other way. Anyway the test drive was great and there is absolutely no play in the shifter at all. There used to be play in it that I could move it around while it was in gear but it is tight like prom night now!!!!!!!!!!!!!! VICTORY!!!!!!!!

Serious question (imagine that):

If you had removed 21, 20 & 25, would that have given better access for the slide tube assembly?
