Mark:

We were putting in the Golden Rod today and of course those white ball/sockets broke in a million pieces. Oh well gave us a chance to order all new ones. That RS Shifter really sits higher than the stock shifter. I may have to grind it down a touch so the shift boot can fit over it correctly. The Golden Rod will be installed on Wednesday.

This is going to be awesome Mike. Perhaps I'll make it back that way to see it in person someday. Heck, I'd love to drop mine off and have it redone if I only had the cash.

Were there any issues when you removed the valve covers and chain covers? Did the inside look good? That car is going to kick @$$ when it is finished. You'll be on the road at the perfect time of year. Keep the pics coming.

John:

So far so good. He is still inspecting everything. As you know I am having this car gone over with a fine tooth comb. The caps, rotors and plugs were a mess. Go figure All of the seals were hard as a rock and very brittle. All that has been replaced and things are moving in the right direction.

I don't know about Mark and Andreas, but every time I see this thread come up, dcdude's brain reads "Blue Crab," and I salivate just a bit....I'm pathetically Pavlovian! The actual thread is pretty spectacular, though...

I saw the car in person today. Looks great mike, almost there. Seeing it with the motor out went a long way in motivating me to get going on pulling the motor. Good luck!

ah, bummer on those ball cups... better to find out now though. Some have had them pop off on the road. That is not fun!

Re. the longer shift lever, I didn't reply to your other thread since we had talked about it a while back. It may very well fit OK, depends on the length of the boot on the 02 shift ****. You also may be able to give it some additional slack, depends on how much was tied up at the base of the ****.
Personally, I think the RS lever with the 02 **** sits a bit high.

Cutting it down is certainly a good solution and you might even like it better!
Have fun!

Nice work Mike! I really enjoy seeing the progress on your cars. Keep the posts and pics coming! BTW, that is my favorite Porsche color.

My main reason for getting the Weltmeister short shift was to eliminate the ball cups. The shorter throw is just a bonus.
