Default Suspense about suspension

Can somebody summarize the pros and cons of these setups? I want to do the upgrade but I'm unsure:

HD with ROW springs vs PSS10's

What's a better bang for the money and which is better for looks and moderate performance (not much of a track guy these days)

Thank you lots guys!!

Some say PSS10s are overkill for a car that does no track duty. Some say HD's are too harsh.

Of course the big plus you have with PSS10s is the adjustability. At the firmer settings, they are great for the track. At the softer settings they give a very smooth ride. You can't beat that.

The bigger bang is the PSS10s. Not coincidentally, the price is a bigger bang too!

Do a search here. There are many threads on the subject.
FYI: I put the ROW M030 package with the Bilsteins last summer. It is a firm, but not harsh riding suspension package that is perfect IMHO for the street.
I don't track the C4s, so I didn't see the need to spend the additional money.
There are several suppliers of the entire kit. Two are Carenewal and Viper Bob who are sponsors of this forum.

I just went through the same thought process and bought PSS10s. They are not installed yet. One very knowledgeable person on this board have stated that he had never seen problems with the ride with HD's/M030's and another said that the M030 springs were responsible from some harshness. Some 993 owners have stated that the harshness is a problem which is what originally alerted me to this potential issue. Who knows for sure. For the extra $700 or so I get adjustability so I'm sure to find settings that are suitable for street use and the occasional DE.

Twin,

My experience is identical to 'air eater' with the Bilstein HD and ROW M030. Firm, but very comfortable for the street. Lowering was 25 mm all around. Car looks great and is not too low for Upstate NY roads. I would not go lower. Make sure to install a FPB. I bought from Gert at the time with a positive experience.

+1.030

I've enjoyed mine for 3 years - no issues.

Gotta love the adjustability of PSS10s. More money initially but a lot less if you're unsatisfied with HDs/030 and decide to change.

twinreds, I am struggling with the same decision, so I am anxious to see the responses. My mechanic strongly suggests the PSS10s over the HD/ROW M030 setup. I will never track my car, I just want better ride with a lowered look. However, the $$ difference is something to consider. My mechanic said the H&R setup will feel every bump and pothole in the road, where the PSS10s won't. Don't know if that is true or not. I'm afraid the PSS10s are overkill too. It would be nice to test drive both setups before making a decision.

While PSS10s may be overkill for the immediate owner, I would guess that it adds to the resale value and thus makes it more appealing for a future buyer. Adjustability is a big plus.

Don't confuse H&R springs with the M030s, they're quite different. I have the H&R/Bilstein HD setup on my 97 and would agree with your mechanic. If I could go back (free of charge!), I'd go M030 which I've tried on a friends car and is not as harsh. I don't think the PSS10s are overkill, just a more expensive option with some additional benefits. For the record, I love the PSS9 setup on my 95, great ride and handling, great (low) looks.

I'd wholeheartedly concur with Tim,.....

Its not about whether such things are "overkill" or not,...its really all about having the sheer flexibility to adjust the suspension to your preferences and useage no matter if its strictly a street car or occasional DE machine........

For the record, the PSS-10 is a big improvement over the -9 with regard to valving range and ease of adjustment.

Ride quality assessments are intensely subjective and its important to recognize the role that tires and tire pressures play in this equation. Factory-recommended tire pressures can give a harsh ride for the street.

I think the Bilstein HDs are valved weirdly. High-speed compression dampening is not very harsh in the absolute sense, but it is harsh with respect to the rest of the package. You still get a decent bit of body roll on the track with the HD/M030 set-up, but it isn't compliant enough with bumps/ruts on the street to justify its softness where it matters. Just the opinion of someone who has tracked his car and driven it on city streets...

Speaking of tire pressure- what do you put in your tires front and back?

There we go. It's feedback like this added some doubt to the HD decision. This is why I went with the PSS10s.
