I'm removing the lower control arm on the 993 so I can install my new ERP bushings. I need to seperate the ball joint from the carrier and I don't have the special Porsche tool. What do you guys use - Pickle fork, gear puller??
You can unbolt the ball joint at its adjustment eccentric local to the control arm. There really isnt a need to separate the ball joint from the upright.
This is my tool of choice - likely similar to what Mike refers to: pickle fork is often a one way trip ....
Actually, this is exactly what I am referring to.....nice guess Garth!
The suggestion of just unbolting the bottom of the A arm is the best one so far though! I have not replaced the bushings, but I am sure Chris has done a few... :-)
Thanks guys...I'll hit the stores in the morning and see what I can find. I should have mentioned that I'm working on the rear control arm...no way to disconnect other than seperating the ball.

Actually, that's easier ..... but doesn't that commit one to a front end realignment once the eccentric is moved? Popping the ball stud doesn't change alignment.
Jeff ,
OK, rear end work in progress , forget front end thoughts .... Snap-On sell that press for ~$180 .... but mine came from Princess Auto for $17 ( sound familiar Mike? ). I think Harbour Freight , or a retailer a notch higher, is your equivalent seller.
