Default FS: Black leather door inserts

These will fit 1997-1998 993s (and possibly late build 96 cars). My plan was to install them on my grey partial leather 96. They, of course, didn't fit. I was able to get them 3/4 of the way on. Enough to see that the black is a perfect contrast to the grey. A really inexpensive way to spruce up your interior. They take about ten minutes per side to install.

I feel I got a great deal for OEM leather inserts. They were advertised as coming off an 8,000 mile car. They are stamped "Mar 1996". I'm asking exactly what I paid, $96 plus shipping.

On another note, if anyone has black vinyl or leather inserts for a 95-96 . . . I'm in the market.

Please PM me and I will direct you to the original pics from the ebay seller.

Eric

You can recover them yourselves....I bought a 1/2 hide from Veteran Co in LA for $50-60 and did it a few years ago. Also did some other interior pieces....center console, bin doors of RSD....posted pics some time ago. Probably a 2 or 3 out of 10 in terms of difficulty and only b/c I wanted to work slow.

Default David, did you strip the old leather/vinyl first?

Also, did you glue or staple the hides?

What's a 1/2 hide?

Glue...IIRC there is some padding so I forgot if I blued the entire piece or just wrapped and glued along the back. 1/2 of a hide is about 1/2 of a cow...pretty big piece but was smallest they would sell to me. Originally I bought it to recover the RSD doors/trim but had so much left over that I went and recovered whatever was easy to take off the car.

David, did you try to recover the center console?

How well did this leather match the rest of the car? How would leather insert match vinyl door trim? Any pics of the grain? Any UV damage?

1) Yes...turned out great and the black vinyl console I had bot is now in the garage waiting to find a new home.

2) My interior was originally two-toned...the only black I had was the dash, steering wheel and tops of the doors; and the leather on the GT3 seats which were a lighter shade of black (996 leather not as black as 993). The hide matched very well.

3) My doors are tan vinyl, but overall looks pretty good.

4) Sorry no close up of the grain....don't have the car around to take pics. Also this is 1/2 a freakin' cow, so there are slight grain variances from place to place, so you can use a smooth area vs a much more pebbled area if you want.

5) No UV damage but the car has been indoors and unused for some time now.
