Did you take the bearing out and go down to a bearing distributor? Lots of times, you wlll get someone behind the desk who has dealt for years in the parts you want, and can often find a substitute or direct replacement. This is especially true if you can find a part number for the original manufacturer of the part.
Cheers,
Mike

I have a few of these bearings but there is a rub -- the Id is 15mm and needs to be honed to 15.4mm from memory. I have three of them.

12 to 12.4 Chris , I redid my distributor to brand new totally thanks to you. my best regards...
One thing to bear in mind is that these are conical angular bearings. If the inner wobbles, that is totally normal.
There is no substitute in the market.
The part number is not manufactured since 1999.

Reviving a dead thread.
I am ordering parts to do a distributor rebuild and want to replace the bearings while I am in there.
Has anyone found a source for the odd 12.4mm ID bearings yet? I read a post on here where someone was going to make them, but I can't seem to find it... probably just need more coffee!

When I enquired at a local bearing supplier if they knew where I could get some standard bearings modified they told me they regularly deal with an engineering company that specializes in that. I will be using that service if I ever get round to pulling the distributor out for maintenance and I have the old bearings in my hand for reference.
Anyone in the dizzy rebuild business would get a batch made up.
For those in the US would these people be worth a call?

In both of my 993 NAs at 60,000 miles I sent my distributor to Steve Weiner. He had them back within 10 days. As I recall, one needed the bearing and one did not. Great guy to do business with. At the time he had OEM bearings in stock.

The standard bearing would be a 7201. All you need to do is open up the ID by 0.4 mm. Not easy, but doable.
I would bet some re-builders are turning down the shafts instead.
BTW, a INA-Schaeffler 7201 bearing is about $25 each.

I contacted a few different people for prices and will post what I find when they get back to me. I know when I do my distributor I would like to replace all 3 bearings just for drill, but NOT if they are $150 each!
I should hear back from people tomorrow or Tuesday depending on how hard people partied this weekend
