Wow, I guess they were really jealous of BMW Welt in Munchen! Nice!

For those who want to do it right, there is always:
http://www.pca.org/news/treffen.html

They haven't posted the 2009 dates yet, but I bet a phone call would cure clear that up for you.

It's not nice to put expensive ideas like that out there without warning. I've been tempted for a long time.

We are headed to Germany for a three year tour in a month. The museum and factory tour are high on the list. We are actaully planning it as a short weekend get away from the kids with the Porsche.

Wow! The 917 lineup looks like my diecast model display case, except in full scale!
My nephew is going to college in Besancon France which is a couple of hours away
by train from Stuttgart. Might be a good time to visit.

Hey how do you arrange a factory tour? Do you have to go through your local dealership?

BTW I have dibs on the #42 RS 60 Spyder...

"In the past the Porsche Museum has been pretty much a joke. I've been to the former museum several times over the decades and it was always pretty bad,--they just never had the room."

Dan, feel like I'm asking the obvious, but why would you go more than once?

I retire in 27 months, 6 days, 15 hours and 34 minutes; I will visit the museum during my first year of retirement!

Default Porsche museum

My wife and I have been talking about going to the Alps sometime, in the spring or fall, renting a compact nickel rocket, perhaps a Peugeot 207 GTi, and then driving a bunch of passes. I have a copy of John Hermann's (the King of the Alps) book, Motorcycle Touring in the Alps, so the planning will be easy.

So the new museum will have to go on the itinerary. As mentioned above, the BMW Museum is excellent. You'll need about a day to go through it properly.

Thanks for posting those. Looks awesome.
We're planning a trip in the summer.
I priced it and it's over 3,000 Euro a week. Ouch!!!

I will settle for just looking at the museum. :-)

I believe the cars were/are in rotation, not always the same cars at any given time.

...3,000 Euro a week...irobertson
And then you have the worry of being responsible for someone else's Porsche in the challenging European driving environment.

So how do you get a tour of the factory? I heard that you have to arrange it with your dealership. Is that true? Has anyone done it before?
